Role Description This remote Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Engineer role is focused on designing, implementing, and maintaining GIS solutions that support GCRI’s global risk modeling and decision-support platforms. The GIS Engineer will develop and manage spatial databases, integrate diverse geospatial datasets, and create maps and visualizations that inform risk assessments and policy simulations. Day-to-day responsibilities include configuring GIS applications, optimizing data workflows, supporting Earth observation and AI-driven modeling tools,



and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to translate analytical insights into practical tools for partners.

The role also involves documenting geospatial processes, ensuring data quality and interoperability, and contributing to continuous improvement of GCRI’s geospatial infrastructure.

Qualifications

- Candidates should possess strong experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and GIS Applications, including design, implementation, and maintenance of geospatial solutions.
- Candidates should possess solid Analytical Skills for spatial analysis, risk modeling support, and interpretation of complex geospatial datasets.
- Candidates should possess expertise in working with Maps and map-based visualizations to communicate risk insights and support decision-making.
- Candidates should possess proficiency in managing spatial Databases, including data integration, quality control, and performance optimization.
- Experience with Earth observation data, remote sensing, or spatial data processing tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, GDAL) is beneficial.
- Knowledge of scripting or programming languages commonly used in GIS (e.g., Python, SQL) is an asset.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, distributed team setting and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A relevant degree in geography, geoinformatics, environmental science, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
