Position Details The Department of Grounds Maintenance requires the services of a casual (20-35hours a week) Grounds Worker II to commence work as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will be required to perform manual work in Grounds Maintenance and will operate various types of light and heavy duty equipment proficiently. The ability to perform strenuous physical labour under a variety of seasonal conditions is required. Safety is of paramount importance for the public, the individual, and their co-workers while producing a good volume of work. The nature of the work will vary according to seasonal changes and will include:

- General Grounds Maintenance such as Turf Maintenance, Bed Maintenance, Indoor Plant Maintenance, and coaching of casual summer staff

- Snow and Ice Removal

- Tree and Shrub Pruning

- General Cleaning of Campus

- Campus Improvement Projects





This position will be required to work a standard work week of Monday to Friday with typical hours of 07:00 – 15:00, with the possibility of a shifting work week. Hours of may shift due to weather conditions and may be required to start work as early as 05:00. Overtime may be part of the routine as needed.

Salary: $24.43 per hour

Position Qualifications The successful candidate will have a High School Diploma. Preference will be given to a person with a minimum 12 months of prior related work experience and a horticultural certificate or diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications in mobile aerial lift use, fall protection and Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED are desired.

Basic knowledge of outdoor maintenance procedures, proficiency with hand tools (powered and non-powered), proficiency with operating utility vehicles and heavy equipment, attention to surrounding environment, utilizing equipment in difficult working conditions and heavy vehicle/pedestrian traffic, basic knowledge of horticultural processes and techniques, ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is also required.

The successful candidate will have robust public relations skills and have knowledge of safe work practices and procedures in the grounds maintenance field.
