Health & Safety Specialist Role Summary: The Health & Safety Specialist leads the corporation’s health and safety programs by working with production, maintenance, supervisors, employees, the Joint Health and Safety Committee and regulatory bodies. This is an opportunity for a practical, strategic professional who can translate regulatory requirements and operational risk into clear priorities, measurable performance, and sustainable improvement.

Health & Safety Specialist Primary Duties & Responsibilities include :

- Conduct regular plant inspections and task-based risk assessments; identify hazards involving machinery, mobile equipment, material handling, chemicals, ergonomics and contractor activities.
- Partner with operations and maintenance to develop and verify controls, including machine guarding, hazardous-energy isolation, safe work procedures and required personal protective equipment.
- Support compliance with Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations including Regulation 851 for Industrial Establishments, and relevant company requirements.
- Coordinate incident and near-miss reporting, investigations and root-cause analysis; document findings and follow corrective actions through closure.
- Deliver and coordinate orientation,



refresher and task-specific training; maintain accurate training records and assess whether training is applied in practice.
- Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee with inspections, meeting materials, recommendations and timely follow-up.
- Work with supervisors and employees to encourage hazard reporting, respectful communication and consistent use of safe work practices.
- Maintain safety procedures, inspection records, dashboards and action logs; use trends to recommend improvements and report progress to management.
- Assist with emergency preparedness, drills, first-aid coordination and response planning as assigned.
- Participate in reviews of equipment or process changes and coordinate specialist input where a pre-start health and safety review may be required.
- And other relevant responsibilities as directed.

To be considered for this role, the “ Health & Safety Specialist ” must have the following qualifications:

- Degree or diploma in occupational health and safety or a related discipline
- 3-5 Years of occupational health and safety experience, ideally in the industrial and manufacturing sectors.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario occupational health and safety legislation, audits, incident investigation, risk management, contractor management, and emergency response.
- Skills in communication, presentation, influencing, and relationship-building skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership.
