Position Summary John Ross & Sons Ltd. is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will operate various pieces of heavy equipment, primarily excavators and loaders, in a busy metal recycling yard.

The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment in an industrial environment, a robust commitment to workplace safety, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

- Safely operate various pieces of equipment, primarily excavators and loaders
- Handle, move, sort, and process scrap metal and recyclable materials
- Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and report any equipment deficiencies to management
- Clean and lubricate equipment, and refill equipment as required
- Safely install, remove, and secure equipment attachments
- Maintain awareness of pedestrians, mobile equipment, trucks,



and other hazards within the yard
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures and site-specific requirements
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Assist with other yard and labour duties as required
- Perform other duties as necessary

Qualifications and Skills
- 2+ years experience with heavy equipment operation, preferably in a scrap-metal, recycling, construction, or industrial environment
- Demonstrated ability to safely and effectively operate excavators and loaders
- Heavy equipment operating training, certification, or a recognized heavy equipment operator ticket is an asset
- Strong safety-focused mindset and commitment to following safe work practices
- Ability to identify, report, and respond appropriately to equipment deficiencies and unsafe conditions
- Clear communication skills and ability to work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and truck drivers
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including lifting, climbing, standing, walking, and other manual labor tasks as required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Work Environment This position is based in a busy metal recycling yard and involves working around heavy machinery, moving vehicles, scrap metal, noise, dust, and changing weather conditions. All employees are expected to follow company safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM and Saturdays as required from 7am - 12pm

Payrate: $25/hr - $30/hr depending on experience

This role is not accessible by public transportation and will require other means of reliable transportation to get to and from work
