About the Opportunity

Stoney Education Authority is seeking an engaging and relationship-focused High School English Language Arts Teacher to join our team.

The successful candidate will primarily teach English Language Arts at the Grade 9, Grade 11, and Grade 12 levels, along with a Career and Technology Studies (CTS) course during Semester 1.

The timetable provides concentrated teaching blocks throughout the day, with the Semester 1 schedule including CTS and senior-high English assignments and Semester 2 focused on English Language Arts courses.

We are looking for a teacher who can help students strengthen their confidence as readers, writers, communicators, and critical thinkers while building meaningful relationships within the school community.

Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will:

- Plan and deliver English Language Arts instruction for Grades 9, 11, and 12
- Teach a CTS course during Semester 1
- Develop engaging lessons aligned with Alberta curriculum requirements
- Support students in developing literacy, writing, communication, and critical-thinking skills
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning strengths and needs
- Assess student learning and provide meaningful, timely feedback
- Build strong and respectful relationships with students
- Collaborate with school administration, Educational Assistants, and specialized support professionals
- Maintain regular communication with families and school leadership
- Support student achievement, attendance, engagement, and well-being
- Participate in school activities, professional learning, and cooperative planning
- Incorporate culturally responsive teaching and opportunities for land-based learning where appropriate
- Demonstrate respect for Stoney Nakoda culture, language, community, and ways of knowing

Student and Classroom Supports SEA schools emphasize a team-based approach to student success.





Teachers have access to multidisciplinary supports that may include:

- Behaviour specialists
- Speech and Language services
- School administration and SEA student-support resources

Class sizes are generally 20 students or fewer, allowing teachers greater opportunity to build relationships and provide individualized support.

What We’re Looking For

Candidates should have

- A Bachelor of Education or equivalent recognized teaching qualification
- Eligibility for Alberta teacher certification
- Experience or academic preparation in English Language Arts
- Strong classroom-management and relationship-building skills
- An inclusive, flexible, and student-centred teaching approach
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary school team

Experience teaching senior-high English Language Arts is an asset. Experience with CTS programming, First Nations education, Indigenous education, rural education, or community-based schools would also be considered an asset.
