Job summary

The Telfer School of Management (TSM) at the University of Ottawa and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) invite applications for Postdoctoral Scholars to conduct research at the intersection of machine learning, computer science, and data analytics for cardiovascular care and health systems. Successful candidates will work under the supervision of Prof. Christopher Sun, the Canada Research Chair in Data Analytics for Health Systems Transformation and collaborate closely with clinical partners and faculty at TSM to develop computational methods that address high-impact problems in cardiovascular disease management and healthcare delivery. This position builds on a unique partnership between UOHI, a world-class tertiary cardiovascular research, education, and patient care centre, and TSM, one of Canada's two triple-accredited business schools. Through access to UOHI's operational and patient data, the collaboration supports the development, rigorous validation, and responsible implementation of machine-learning models and data-driven decision tools in real clinical and health-system settings.

Qualifications

- PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence, Statistics,



Electrical or Computer Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, or a closely related quantitative field by the start date. Candidates from Operations Research or Industrial Engineering are also welcome when their research has a strong computational and machine-learning focus.
- Strong programming and software-development skills in Python and/or R; experience with modern machine-learning libraries, version control, reproducible workflows, databases, or data pipelines is highly valued.
- Expertise in machine learning and/or deep learning, with particular interest in areas such as natural language processing, time-series and survival modelling, multimodal learning, representation learning, causal machine learning, or trustworthy AI. Expertise in optimization is an additional asset.
- Prior experience analyzing large, complex, real-world datasets is highly desired; experience with clinical, administrative, imaging, physiological, or other sensitive health data is an asset.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in interdisciplinary research teams
