CNC TURNING LATHE OPERATOR – CARBIDE MACHINIST

Shift: Evening Shift Schedule: 3:00 p.m. – 1:15 a.m., Monday to Thursday

POSITION SUMMARY

The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating CNC turning lathes and other machining equipment to recondition, modify, and/or manufacture various types of profile tools, carbide tools, and saws in accordance with engineering drawings, OEM specifications, and established quality standards. The successful candidate must be reliable, self-directed, detail-oriented, and quality-focused. The candidate must have solid machining and tooling experience, as well as intermediate to advanced blueprint and technical drawing interpretation skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Machine Setup

- Load and verify CNC programs, machine settings, tooling, and operating parameters to ensure optimal performance.

Machine Operation

- Monitor machine operation, make necessary adjustments, perform in-process inspections, and conduct quality checks to ensure products meet specifications.

Maintenance

- Report machine malfunctions, mechanical issues, or other equipment concerns to the Maintenance team.

Programming & Troubleshooting

- Modify existing CNC programs to improve performance or correct errors.




- Troubleshoot mechanical, machining, or programming issues and implement appropriate solutions within the scope of the position.

Safety & Compliance

- Follow all safety procedures and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain accurate production, tooling-change, maintenance, and inspection records with minimal supervision.

REQUIRED SKILLS

- Proficiency in operating and setting up CNC machining equipment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools and inspection techniques.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a manufacturing setting.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

- Machinist diploma required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of relevant machining experience with carbide tooling, tool reconditioning, CNC turning, or cutting-tool manufacturing is an asset.
