About Wosler
Wosler is building SonoSystem, a teleoperated robotic platform that enables licensed sonographers to perform ultrasound exams remotely. The system is designed to address critical healthcare challenges including sonographer shortages, rural access to care, clinician ergonomics, and clinic cost pressures.
SonoSystem is not an ultrasound machine. It is a robotic and telepresence platform that integrates with existing, fully certified ultrasound systems used in clinics and hospitals.
The product ecosystem includes
SonoBot — A mobile, wheeled robotic cart that houses a collaborative robotic arm, vision systems, compute, and power hardware. It is designed to precisely position and manipulate a standard medical ultrasound transducer on a patient while balancing mobility, structural rigidity, stability under dynamic loads, patient-adjacent safety, serviceability, and manufacturability for clinical environments.
Chaperone — A purpose-built overhead camera and display structure assembly that provides fixed, repeatable visual perspectives and real-time telepresence between the patient and a remote sonographer. It integrates multiple cameras, a patient-facing display, and custom mechanical mounting to ensure consistent geometry, secure standoff from the robotic workspace, cable management, and clinical durability.
SonoStation — A remote operator workstation used by licensed sonographers, consisting of a haptic motion controller, displays, and input peripherals mounted in an ergonomic mechanical configuration. It enables natural probe manipulation, precise force control, and sustained use while minimizing physical strain and supporting accurate teleoperation of the SonoBot.
Wosler operates at the intersection of medical devices, robotics, and distributed healthcare delivery and is progressing toward FDA, Health Canada, and MDSAP regulatory submissions.
Role Overview
Wosler is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to take ownership of mechanical design across multiple product lines within SonoSystem.
This is a hands-on, product-driven role spanning concept development, detailed design, documentation, and release.
You will design parts and assemblies that are manufacturable, serviceable, and safe for patient-adjacent use, working closely with electrical, software,
and systems engineers in a regulated medical device environment.
This is not a research role — it is a real-world product engineering role focused on building hardware that ships.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & CAD
- Design complex mechanical parts and assemblies using Onshape
- Create and maintain parametric 3D models for production hardware
- Produce 2D drawings using Onshape drawing tools with proper GD&T;, tolerances, and manufacturing notes
- Design for real clinical constraints including cleaning, cable routing, stability, and human interaction
Manufacturing & DFX
- Apply DFM and DFA principles across all designs
- Design components for:
- 3D-printed plastics, including PLA, ABS, PETG, Nylon, etc.
- Sheet metal fabrication
- CNC-machined components
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to refine designs for cost, yield, and repeatability
BOM & Release Management
- Create, maintain, and revise Bills of Materials (BOMs) in Onshape
- Manage revision control, release states, and part lifecycle
- Ensure mechanical documentation aligns with quality and regulatory expectations
- Support ECOs and controlled design changes
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with electrical, robotics, and software teams to ensure mechanical designs support system-level requirements
- Support integration of third-party hardware, including robotic arms, cameras, displays, and sensors
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and failure mode discussions
Prototyping & Iteration
- Support rapid prototyping and iterative development
- Evaluate prototypes through hands-on testing and refinement
- Balance speed with robustness as products move from prototype to pilot to production
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- Strong proficiency with Onshape, including:
- 3D modeling
- 2D drawings
- Assemblies
- Version-controlled BOMs and release workflows
- Proven experience designing:
- Plastic parts, including 3D-printed components
- Sheet metal assemblies
- CNC-machined components
- Solid understanding of DFM, DFA, and tolerance stack-ups
- Experience maintaining revision-controlled mechanical documentation
- Comfortable working in a regulated or quality-driven product environment
- Solid mechanical intuition and attention to detail
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Experience in medical devices
- Familiarity with IEC 60601 or ISO 13485 environments
- Experience designing patient-adjacent or safety-critical hardware
- Exposure to electromechanical systems and cable management
- Experience supporting products through pilot deployments or early commercialization
What This Role Is — and Isn't
This role is:
- Deeply hands-on
- Product-focused
- Responsible for hardware that will be used by real patients and clinicians
- Embedded in an early but technically mature system
This role is not:
- Pure concept or industrial design
- Academic or simulation-only work
- A narrow drafting role with no ownership
Work Arrangement This is a full-time, temporary six-month position with the possibility of extension.
The position is based in London, Ontario and follows a hybrid work arrangement.
Applications are welcome from qualified candidates across Canada. Because this is a hands-on engineering role involving physical hardware, prototyping, testing, and system integration, the successful candidate must be able to work onsite in London as required.
Candidates currently located outside London are welcome to apply provided they are able to meet the onsite requirements of the position.
Compensation
$60,000–$115,000 CAD per year (annualized)
Compensation within the range will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.
Because this is initially a six-month temporary position, the advertised salary range represents the annualized rate of compensation. Actual earnings will be prorated based on the duration of employment.
Why Join Wosler
- Work on a product that directly improves access to healthcare
