Millwork Shop Manager / Senior Cabinetmaker

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Millwork Shop Manager / Senior Cabinetmaker to take ownership of our millwork operation and help lead the production of high-end custom millwork.

This is not an entry-level cabinetmaking position.

We are looking for someone who already knows how to build exceptional millwork, read and interpret shop drawings, organize production, solve problems independently and keep work moving without needing constant direction.

You will be hands-on in the shop every day, but this role goes well beyond simply producing work at the bench.

The right person will also help lead the shop, mentor and train others, maintain quality standards, improve workflow and take real ownership of the day-to-day millwork operation.

Our millwork shop is just over two years old. It is a beautiful, modern working environment with new equipment, the tools needed to do the job and a strong amount of work already lined up.

The Role

Your primary responsibility will be to lead and produce high-quality custom millwork while helping organize and manage the day-to-day operation of the shop.

You will work closely with Thomas Markley and the construction team, particularly as you get familiar with our projects and the way Markley operates. The long-term expectation, however, is that you will be capable of running the millwork side of the business with a high degree of independence.

This is a working leadership role.

You should be just as comfortable building millwork as you are organizing the shop, reading drawings, mentoring another cabinetmaker or apprentice and making sure the work leaving the shop meets the standard our clients expect.

Thomas does not need another person he has to manage all day.

He needs someone who can look at what needs to be done, understand it, take ownership and make it happen.

Key Responsibilities

- Produce high-end custom cabinetry and architectural millwork.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, construction drawings and project specifications.
- Plan and organize shop production so projects move efficiently from drawings through fabrication.
- Maintain exceptional standards of workmanship, fit and finish.
- Work hands-on in the shop as a senior cabinetmaker.
- Lead,



mentor and train apprentices and less-experienced team members.
- Help establish and maintain efficient shop processes, workflow and production standards.
- Identify issues early and solve production problems without waiting for constant direction.
- Coordinate with Thomas and the project team when clarification, materials or project decisions are required.
- Help determine material requirements and support takeoffs and production planning where needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organized shop environment.
- Protect company tools, machinery, equipment and materials and ensure they are used properly.
- Support continuous improvement within the millwork operation.
- Participate in site coordination or installation support where required, although the primary focus of this position will be shop production.

Who We’re Looking For You are an experienced cabinetmaker who knows the trade well and takes pride in producing exceptional work.

You are comfortable being the person others look to when something needs to be figured out.

You can look at a set of drawings, understand what needs to happen, organize the work and get started.

You do not need someone standing beside you all day telling you what to do.

You understand the difference between beautiful work and profitable work. Quality matters, but so do efficiency, organization, production flow and completing the work properly and on time.

You are also a good leader.

You enjoy working with other people and are comfortable teaching, mentoring and helping less-experienced cabinetmakers develop their skills. You can hold a high standard without making the shop miserable to work in.

If something is not right, you address it.

If a process can be improved, you improve it.

And if you are given responsibility for the shop, you treat it like it matters.

Qualifications

- Approximately 7–10+ years of cabinetmaking, joinery or architectural millwork experience preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience producing custom, high-end millwork.
- Previous experience as a shop lead, foreperson, supervisor, manager or business owner is a robust asset.
- Red Seal Cabinetmaker certification is preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated journeyperson or Red Seal-level capability and experience will be considered.
- Strong ability to read and interpret shop drawings and construction documents.
- Strong knowledge of woodworking tools, machinery and safe shop practices.
- Experience training or mentoring apprentices and junior cabinetmakers.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.




- Able to balance craftsmanship with production efficiency.
- Comfortable communicating directly with ownership and project teams.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation required.
- First Aid and other relevant safety certifications are assets.
- Willingness to complete additional safety training as required.

Compensation & Position Details

- $36–$42 per hour, depending on experience and capability.
- Full-time position.
- In-shop role based in Langley, BC.
- Performance review at 85 days.
