Located on the traditional land of the Anishnaabek, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat-Wyandot-Wyandotte peoples, the Blue Mountains Public Library (BMPL) is a unique community organization that brings together a public library, museum, archives, and gallery. Serving the communities of The Town of The Blue Mountains, BMPL connects people with ideas, stories, collections, and each other.

Position summary:

Reporting to the Museum Curator, the Museum Technician delivers museum, archival, and library services, with a focus on collections management, exhibitions, research, programming, and public engagement. The Museum Technician manages assigned collections and supports their care, documentation, preservation, and interpretation in accordance with established industry standards and best practices. The position also provides front-line service to museum and library users and supports the day-to-day operation of BMPL spaces.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Manage assigned museum and archival collections, including cataloguing, documentation, research, photography, digitization, storage and inventory control.
- Ensure the safety, security and appropriate care of physical and digitized collections.
- Apply established museum and archival standards and practices, including archival description using RAD, classification and preventative conservation.
- Select and deselect materials and objects in accordance with the Collection Plan.
- Develop, prepare, mount, and promote physical and virtual exhibitions.
- Lead tours and deliver educational programs for students and the public, including developing learning and interpretive materials.
- Develop and deliver museum programs, special events and outreach activities.
- Research collections and exhibitions and respond to public research requests related to local history and collection materials.
- Build and maintain relationships with municipal staff, cultural institutions, community groups, historical societies, volunteers and tourism organizations.
- Support tourism efforts in the Town, County, and region by promoting local cultural resources and providing informed recommendations.




- Promote museum and library programs through displays and other communications.
- Provide front-line library services, including readers’ advisory, placing holds and circulation of materials.
- Process payments, donations, fees, and fines; maintain cash handling procedures and complete related financial records and reconciliations.
- Respond to telephone and front-counter inquiries and independently manage difficult interactions using appropriate de-escalation techniques.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with the public about library and museum programs, policies, and procedures.
- Contribute to a healthy and safe workplace and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Use emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, responsibly and in accordance with BMPL policies and professional standards.
- Deliver programs and services, prepare reports and perform other duties as assigned in support of BMPL’s organizational objectives and Strategic Plan.

What you will need:

- Post-secondary post-baccalaureate certificate in museum technology, museum management, archives and records management, archives practice, archaeology, heritage, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in a museum, archives, or library environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency with industry-standard museum, archival and library software, including Integrated Library Systems and OLS database searching.
- Strong research, organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of community members, researchers, volunteers and partners.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a public-facing environment.
- Commitment to the appropriate care, preservation and interpretation of collections.
- Commitment to providing inclusive, accessible and welcoming services to the community.




- A Class G2 or higher driver’s licence is required.
