Role Description

Armbrae Academy is committed to providing students with meaningful opportunities to develop their creativity, confidence, collaboration, and passion for the performing arts. We are seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and enthusiastic Musical Director to join our team for our annual school musical.

The Musical Director will organize the musical accompaniment of the School of Rock show selected this year. This person will work closely with the Production Director to guide students through the musical preparation process, supporting both their artistic development and musical growth. The successful candidate will help develop the vocal skills of ensemble and lead performers, prepare students for performance, and ensure that the musical elements of the production are polished and performance-ready.

This is an exciting opportunity for a music educator or experienced musical theatre professional who enjoys working with young people and fostering confidence, creativity, collaboration, and a love of the performing arts.

Qualifications & Experience The ideal candidate will have:

- Experience in accompanying singers at the piano and choosing the proper vocal range for each student.
- Experience in musical theatre, music education, or a related field.
- Strong vocal and musical skills, including the ability to prepare and perform a musical score.
- Experience working with children or adolescents in a school, theatre, or community setting.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- A commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for students of diverse abilities and experience levels.
- Enthusiasm for helping young performers develop confidence and a genuine enjoyment of the performing arts.





Key Responsibilities The Musical Director will lead weekly music rehearsals, focusing on vocal development, musical literacy, learning individual parts, and preparing students to perform the musical score with confidence. They will provide musical direction and accompaniment for rehearsals and performances as required, while supporting students in developing their musical skills and confidence.

The Musical

Director will collaborate closely with the Production Director and production team to support the overall artistic vision of the production, participate in auditions, and contribute to musical selection and casting discussions. They will foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive rehearsal setting that encourages students of varying musical abilities to participate and grow.

Director will also provide musical leadership during full-day rehearsals, tech week, dress rehearsals, and performances.

Schedule & Important Dates

Auditions will be October 19 & 26, 2026 and rehearsals start at the beginning of November and run 1.5 hours a week. Performances are Friday, April 16 & Saturday, April 17, 2027 with full day rehearsals the week leading up to the show.

Total Commitment

Approximately 60 hours of student contact time, including rehearsals, auditions, the full-day rehearsal, and production week.

Weekly rehearsals will take place from 3:30–5:00 p.m. on one day per week (Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday).
