About the job:

Kent is looking for a Piping Supervisor to lead the Piping Design team in Calgary, Alberta. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day people leadership and technical oversight while ensuring piping design deliverables are safe, accurate, constructible, and completed in accordance with project, client, and Kent requirements. This is a regular, full-time position supporting multidisciplinary projects and the continued development of piping design capability in the Calgary office.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

- Lead, supervise, and support the Calgary Piping Design team, including work allocation, priorities, coaching, performance feedback, and professional development.
- Plan piping design resources and coordinate staffing requirements with Engineering and Project Management to meet current and forecast project needs.
- Provide technical direction and oversight for piping layouts, plot plans, equipment arrangements, 3D models, isometrics, and related design deliverables.
- Establish and maintain piping design execution plans, work processes, checking requirements, and deliverable schedules in accordance with project and Kent procedures.
- Monitor progress, productivity, budget, quality, and schedule performance; identify variances and implement timely corrective actions.
- Ensure designs comply with project specifications, client standards, applicable codes, safety requirements, and sound engineering design practices.
- Review and approve piping design deliverables within delegated authority and ensure appropriate checking and interdisciplinary review are completed.
- Coordinate piping design interfaces with Process, Mechanical, Stress, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls, Construction, and other project functions.
- Lead or participate in model reviews, constructability reviews, design assurance activities, field walkdowns, and resolution of design conflicts and technical issues.
- Support proposals, estimates, schedules, scope development, change management, and project planning for piping design activities.
- Maintain effective working relationships with clients, vendors, fabrication and construction teams, and other stakeholders.
- Promote consistent use of approved design tools, standards, lessons learned, and continuous-improvement practices across the team.
- Foster a safe, respectful, accountable, and collaborative work environment aligned with Kent's values and HSSEQ expectations.
- Client Site visits will be required In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently.



All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:

- Diploma or certificate in engineering design and drafting, mechanical engineering technology, or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- 20+ years of piping engineering / design experience in industrial, energy, petrochemical, refining, or related facilities, including demonstrated team-lead or supervisory experience.
- 5 – 10 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge and experience managing global work-share execution models, including coordination and integration of engineering and design teams in off shore countries.
- Strong knowledge of piping design practices, applicable codes and standards, constructability, operability, maintainability, and safety in design.
- Demonstrated ability to plan resources, assign work, monitor progress, manage competing priorities, and deliver within budget and schedule requirements.
- Proficiency with relevant 3D plant design and drafting software; experience with E3D / S3D / AutoCAD Plant 3D or comparable systems is preferred.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs;, piping specifications, line lists, equipment data, vendor information, plot plans, and engineering documentation.
- Experience with brownfield modifications, field verification, laser-scan information, model reviews, and construction support is an asset.
- Strong checking, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and quality-management skills.

- Communicates technical direction, priorities, risks, and expectations clearly to team members and project stakeholders.
- Builds effective working relationships across engineering disciplines, project management, clients, vendors, construction teams, and other stakeholders.
