ParklandGEO is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Grande Prairie team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, financial performance, client relationships and delivery of a portfolio of geotechnical projects across Northwestern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia, working alongside our engineers, technologists and field staff.

The position is well suited to an established Project Manager from engineering consulting, construction, civil infrastructure, surveying, utilities, energy services, environmental consulting or materials testing who wants a larger role in a growing office and broader exposure across disciplines. Technical direction and engineering sign-off rest with ParklandGEO’s professional engineers; the Project Manager is accountable for how the work is planned, resourced, delivered and billed.

Our Grande Prairie office is a close knit, collaborative team delivering geotechnical projects for municipal, industrial, oil and gas, transportation and land development clients throughout the region, with the technical resources of ParklandGEO’s offices across Western Canada behind it. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to gain exposure to materials testing and environmental projects and to become an important part of the office’s continued growth.

The Role

Reporting to the Northern Geotechnical Manager, the Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, financial management and delivery of assigned projects.

- Manage multiple projects concurrently from proposal and project setup through closeout.
- Contribute to proposals and estimates; review contracts, scope, budgets and client requirements before work begins.
- Develop project plans, schedules, staffing and resource forecasts.
- Coordinate field staff, technical professionals and other project resources; select, contract and manage subcontractors to scope, budget and terms.
- Coordinate project safety planning and confirm applicable site-specific, client and subcontractor HSE requirements are addressed.
- Act as the primary client contact; maintain regular communication and support strong client relationships.
- Monitor progress, costs and schedule against budget, including review of time, expenses and subcontractor charges.
- Maintain project forecasts, monitor project financial performance, and identify and address budget, schedule or resource variances early.




- Identify changes in scope and manage change orders in a timely manner.
- Prepare and review prebills, issue accurate and timely invoices, and follow up on outstanding receivables.
- Track deliverables, outstanding items and closeout requirements.
- Identify and manage project risks.
- Work with engineering and technical leads to ensure technical requirements and quality standards are met.
- Maintain accurate and organized project documentation.
- Provide direction and support to project team members, and identify opportunities for additional work with existing clients.

Qualifications and Experience We are looking for someone with demonstrated project management experience and strong business, organizational and people skills. Sound judgment, accountability, initiative and follow through matter as much as the résumé.

- Typically 5+ years of project management experience, including direct accountability for project budgets, financial performance and schedule.
- Experience in engineering consulting, construction, civil infrastructure, surveying, utilities, energy services, environmental consulting, materials testing or another comparable project based industry.
- Strong working knowledge of project budgets, cost tracking, invoicing, change management and contract terms.
- Experience planning and coordinating people, subcontractors, schedules and competing priorities across several concurrent projects.
- Understanding of field safety practices in construction, industrial or field services environments.
- Strong client communication and relationship management skills, and clear written and verbal communication.
- Sound judgment, practical problem solving, and the ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned projects.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with technical professionals and field personnel.
- Experience using project management, project accounting or ERP systems to track budgets, costs and billing is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence. The role includes periodic travel to project sites across Northwestern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia, with occasional overnight stays.

PMP or an equivalent project management designation is an asset; demonstrated project management performance is more important.



Relevant post secondary education is an asset. An engineering degree or professional engineering designation is not required for this position.
