Manager - Property Accounting (Retail) - Downtown Toronto (3 days office | 2 days work from home)

Compensation: $130,000-$140,000 + bonus

About you The Manager, Property Accounting is responsible for overseeing the financial reporting and accounting activities for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets while leading and developing a team of property accountants. This role ensures the accurate and timely completion of financial statements, recoveries, budgets, audits, reconciliations, and cash flow management. The successful candidate will partner closely with Property Management and Asset Management teams to maintain financial integrity, support portfolio performance, and drive operational excellence.

You as a Manager, Property Accounting will:

- Performance manage and mentor a team of property accountants
- Preparation and review of annual final CAM and Tax billing – including building a model in excel and lease audits of existing models
- Disposition and acquisition entries and reconciliations as necessary
- Preparation and review of Month-end/Recurring journal entries
- Preparation and review of monthly reporting packages (including financial statements)
- Preparation and review of quarterly reporting packages (including financial statements, work papers and supporting schedules)
- Intercompany charge backs
- Preparation and review of GST/HST reconciliations




- Preparation and review of Bank reconciliations
- Preparation and review of annual budget
- Preparation and review of annual year-end audit working papers and liaison with auditors during field work period
- Preparation and review of tenant/vendor chargebacks as needed
- Liaise with Property Managers and Asset Managers
- Cash flow management and cash calls when required
- Other property accounting related tasks and duties as assigned by management

Is this the right role for you? You will bring:

- Post-secondary accounting education, combined with a professional designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA)
- At least 5 years of experience in real estate accounting space or 2 years auditing experience of real estate clients in major accounting firms is required
- Ability to review work of other peer accountants in a timely manner and provide coaching and mentoring
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize/manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a demanding work setting
- Good communication skills with the ability to write detailed reports and communicate well with senior management
- Excellent computer skills with a proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word and accounting software packages
- Knowledge of MRI a major asset
