This position is within the Technology department for Home Office.

This position is home based and will be interacting with a team spread across Canada and United States.

We are looking for a Test Automation Developer with strong Playwright and JavaScript/TypeScript skills to join the APEX Product Team. APEX is our internal platform: a React/TypeScript Single Page Application backed by PHP Laravel APIs that communicate with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. You will own and grow our automated test suite across the UI, Backend APIs, and the flow of data back into Business Central, so the team can ship quickly and with confidence.

This role is open to developers early in their career. If you have around two years of hands-on test automation with JavaScript/TypeScript and Playwright, we want to hear from you.

How We Work





We operate in a Product Operating Model: small empowered teams, outcome-focused goals, and continuous discovery. Quality is a shared responsibility. Developers write tests first on business logic and critical UI flows, and you partner with Developers and Product/Design to turn Acceptance Criteria into test cases, decide where each test belongs, and keep feedback loops fast.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, build, and maintain end-to-end test automation in Playwright across APEX modules, APIs, and Business Central integration points.
- Take ownership of the existing automation: review it, refactor it, and remove flakiness and duplication.
- Decide where coverage matters most using a risk-based approach, focusing on critical paths and high-impact areas.
- Keep tests isolated with independent data per test and no cascading failures between apps.
- Validating reported defects, and creating well-documented tickets that enable efficient debugging and resolution by development teams
- Work with Developers on the handoff from Acceptance Criteria to test cases, and review test code in pull requests.
- Integrate the suite into CI so it runs reliably, in parallel, and gives the team fast, trustworthy feedback.
- Actively look for leverage: automation, reuse, modularity, documentation, self-serve tools.

Core Competencies and Required Skills and Experience

- Test Automation (non-negotiable): Proven experience with test automation using JavaScript.
- Playwright: Strong experience with locator-based (web-first) assertions and multi-project configurations.
- JavaScript​: Comfortable writing it daily, and able to read and reason about both UI and API code.
- API Testing:



Solid experience testing REST APIs, ideally a Laravel backend. You call endpoints directly for setup and contract tests, and you know when the UI is actually the thing under test.
- Risk-Based Coverage: You prioritize critical paths and high-impact areas rather than chasing coverage numbers.-
- Test Design Judgment: You can explain the difference between types and benefits of different tests, and appropriateness for a situation.
- Teamwork and Communication: Excellent collaboration and communication skills. Comfortable pairing with Developers, giving and receiving feedback in code review, and explaining quality risks to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-Have Skills

- TypeScript: Ability to read and reason about Types, Safety, and proper use.
- Experience testing ERP or other stateful back-office systems, especially Business Central, including API-first setup (OData / custom API pages) and isolated test companies.
- PHP / Laravel backend familiarity.
- CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions or similar) and running tests in parallel.
- Exposure to Product Management or Design practices.
- Familiarity with the Construction industry, Franchise models, and Construction Project Management.
- Interest in evaluating AI features (AI evals).

What Success Looks Like

30 Days: Environment set up, pairing with the team to onboard, understanding domain basics, and a first review of the existing automation.

60 Days: Contributing test code to the main branch regularly, with a clear plan for refactoring the existing suite.

90 Days: One module fully covered by automated E2E tests (for example, the Invoices Module: Backend APIs and UI through to Business Central), and the existing automation refactored and cleaned up.

6 Months: The APEX Product Team ships meaningfully faster because of reliable, trusted test automation.

1 Year+: Helping define and build evaluation (AI evals) for AI features in our products.

Compensation: $90,000 – $100,000 CAD per year
