The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician provides support to the QA Manager in the areas of microbial pathology and product composition through application of established testing procedures. The QA Technician will be responsible for complex, micro and chemical laboratory procedures which require experience and specialized training which would otherwise be performed by a commercial lab. The QA Technician will carry out all lab activities, supply and procedural methods as directed by the QA Manager.

The QA Technician will maintain records of all testing results, product formulations and product processing procedures to meet all regulatory requirements applicable to a food manufacturing facility. The QA Technician must be able to respond to critical situations as they are presented. The QA Technician works independently or under the direction of the QA Manager when performing professional duties associated with the preparation, performance, and completion of lab tests.

Job Duties

· Prepare pathological tests according to established Quality Control and all regulatory requirements

· Prepare product composition tests according to established Quality Control and all regulatory requirements

· Report off specification test results to the QA Manager immediately for determination of remedial actions

· Record all tests prepared in house





· Participate in the maintenance of the lab facilities, equipment, disposable supplies, and development and implementation of policies affecting the lab.

· Prepare quality control reports, workload summary reports

· Report processing procedures to the QA Manager that will improve test results and enhance shelf life.

· Provide technical direction in lab techniques and procedures for new developments for existing procedures and/or recent procedures that will improve product quality and reliability.

· Lead food safety culture and must be able to respond to emergency situations

· Maintain and review documents to regulatory and certification requirements in an orderly manner

· Other related duties as assigned

Requirements

· Bachelor of Science degree or training and experience as a laboratory technologist and specialized on-the-job training.

· Proficiency in preparing and maintaining records, use of electronic communications tools and software.

· High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.

· Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

Working Conditions

· Mostly in a laboratory environment but may include some time in production plant and warehouse

· Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.

· Overtime as required.

· Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, and lifting
