Salary Range

The salary range for this position is CAD $32.84 - $32.84 / hour

Detailed Overview

Under the direction of a Physiotherapist and/or Occupational Therapist, the Rehabilitation Assistant implements rehabilitative treatment plans and programs in order to maximize the residents' abilities and reduce the risk of injury to both residents and employees.

The Rehabilitation

Assistant works directly with residents to assist them in developing, maintaining or improving physical, psychosocial, cognitive and communication skills.

Responsibilities

- Performs resident specific or group based activities as delegated by physiotherapist or occupational therapist including range of motion and strengthening exercises, walking and balance programs.

- Demonstrates the use of devices such as braces, walking aids, equipment and ADL/personal care items to residents/families and staff. Promotes a safety culture; collaborates with team in mobility, and transfers.

- In keeping with the resident's goals, the Rehabilitation Assistant assists residents in ADL (dressing and personal care) and meal time management,



transfers and falls prevention strategies.

- Assembles and modifies adaptive/therapeutic equipment (wheelchairs, cushions, fall mats, hip protectors) as directed by therapist.

- Maintains site inventory of equipment, devices and materials.

- Participates in education sessions for family/resident/staff that promote safety culture; guides staff with mobility/transfers/fall prevention.

- Reports observations of resident behaviour, progress and/or changes as required to the interdisciplinary team. Maintains related records.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

- Ability to deal with others effectively.

- Ability to organize work.

- Ability to operate related equipment.

- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
