The Position

Do you enjoy solving complex problems with research and data? If so, HSAA is seeking a Research & Policy Analyst to join our Engagement team.

Reporting to the Director, Engagement, you will conduct research and analysis across a range of healthcare, health policy, funding, service delivery, public policy, operational, and organizational issues. Working across HSAA, you will gather and interpret information, identify emerging trends and issues, and provide evidence-based insights that support organizational planning, advocacy, member communications, education and engagement initiatives, and organizational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities Include But Not Limited To

- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on health-care systems, health policy, health workforce models and developments, health-care funding and service delivery, and other relevant issues to identify trends and implications for HSAA, its members, and organizational priorities.
- Conduct internal and external environmental scanning to identify emerging trends, risks, opportunities, and issues that may affect HSAA, its members, or organizational priorities.
- Analyze information from HSAA programs and departments to identify trends, assess results, and support adjustments to organizational approaches and initiatives.
- Monitor and assess best practices in education, communication, engagement, government policy, legislation, budgets, funding decisions, and other external developments to identify potential implications for HSAA and its members.
- Prepare briefing notes, research reports, presentations, dashboards, and other materials that translate research and analysis into explicit findings and recommendations for organizational decision-makers.




- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify research needs and develop research and project plans that support organizational initiatives.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Skills

- Bachelor’s degree in economics, Health Science, Social Science, Health Policy, Public Policy, Political Science, Statistics, Business, or a related discipline. A master’s degree is considered an asset.
- Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in health-care research, health policy, policy analysis, health workforce analysis, economic analysis, program evaluation, or a related field.
- Experience researching and analyzing health-care systems, service-delivery models, funding approaches, health workforce issues, or other health-system developments.
- Knowledge of health-care systems, health policy, health workforce issues, funding and service-delivery models, and the broader public policy environment affecting health care.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative information, identify trends, risks, gaps, and implications, and develop practical recommendations.
- Ability to assess the relevance, reliability, and limitations of available information and synthesize information from multiple sources into evidence-based findings and recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports, briefing notes,



presentations, and research summaries and communicating findings to varied audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with data visualization, survey platforms, or statistical software is considered an asset.

- Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle for occasional travel within Alberta.
