Newstead Academy is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Cleaner / Janitor to maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for children, staff, and families.

This role is essential in supporting daily operations by ensuring all classrooms, washrooms, and common areas meet our high standards of cleanliness and sanitation, especially in a childcare setting.

Key Responsibilities Daily Cleaning & Sanitization

- Clean and disinfect classrooms, including:
- Tables, chairs, shelves, and learning materials
- High-touch surfaces (door handles, light switches, etc.)
- Clean and sanitize washrooms multiple times per day
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors throughout the centre
- Maintain cleanliness in hallways, entrances, and common areas
- Follow enhanced sanitization protocols during illness/outbreak periods
- Clean toys and shared materials according to childcare standards
- Support classroom reset (organizing, wiping surfaces, restocking supplies)
- Refill soap, paper towels, tissues, and cleaning supplies
- Monitor inventory and report supply needs
- Dispose of garbage and recycling daily
- Ensure cleaning equipment is properly maintained and stored
- Follow all Ministry and Public Health cleaning guidelines
- Use cleaning products safely and according to instructions




- Report any maintenance or safety concerns immediately

Ideal Candidate

- Previous cleaning or janitorial experience (childcare or school setting preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and high cleanliness standards
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Physically able to perform cleaning tasks (lifting, bending, standing)
- Knowledge of safe use of cleaning chemicals (asset)

Work Location Newstead Academy has two locations:

- Markham Campus: 120 S Town Centre Blvd, Markham, ON L6G 0E8
- Richmond Hill Campus: Unit 22, 13085 Yonge St, Richmond Hill, ON L4E 3S8

Candidates may be considered for either location. We will take commuting distance, candidate preference, and operational needs into consideration when determining the most suitable work location. Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $19.00-$23.00 per hour
