We’re looking for a remote Senior Conference Manager in the conference and event management industry.
Our client is a well-established Canadian conference, event, and marketing management organization with decades of experience delivering national and international conferences, congresses, and large-scale events. Operating within a fully remote environment, the organization is experiencing significant growth and is expanding its capacity to support increasingly complex programs across Canada and internationally.
This is a high-impact role for an experienced conference professional who can independently lead the planning and execution of major conferences from conception through post-event evaluation. The successful candidate will bring strong operational leadership, financial acumen, stakeholder management expertise, and the ability to mentor junior team members while managing multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
Senior Conference Manager Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning and execution of national and international conferences and congresses ranging from 1,500 to 10,000+ delegates
- Serve as the primary client contact and senior operational lead for assigned conferences
- Develop and manage conference budgets, financial forecasting, reconciliations, and project profitability
- Lead conference organizing committees, scientific/program committees, and stakeholder groups
- Manage abstract submission processes, speaker management, scientific programs, and presentation workflows
- Oversee venue sourcing, hotel negotiations, room block management, supplier contracting, and citywide logistics
- Direct integrated project teams across registration, housing, sponsorship, exhibits, marketing, communications, and onsite operations
- Develop project plans, production schedules, risk management strategies,
and operational timelines
- Lead onsite conference delivery, including team leadership, supplier coordination, venue management, and issue resolution
- Prepare executive-level reports, KPI summaries, project updates, and post-event evaluations
- Mentor and support junior conference management professionals
- Contribute to business growth initiatives and support business development opportunities
The Successful Candidate Has:
- 5+ years of progressive conference management experience within a Professional Congress Organizer (PCO), conference management, or similar environment
- Proven experience managing the full lifecycle of large-scale conferences with attendance of 2,000+ delegates; experience with events exceeding 3,000 attendees is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of conference operations including abstracts, scientific programs, speaker management, registration, housing, sponsorships, exhibits, and logistics
- Demonstrated experience managing conference budgets, forecasting, financial reporting, and profitability
- Strong understanding of marketing, promotion, and sponsorships
- Experience leading committees, stakeholders, clients, vendors, and cross-functional project teams
- Strong venue sourcing, hotel negotiation, and citywide conference management experience
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and tight deadlines
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of accountability and attention to detail
- Robust leadership, communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with conference and project management platforms such as EventsAir, Wrike, or similar systems
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally approximately 30% to 40% of the year
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Bilingualism in English and French is considered a strong asset
- Valid passport and ability to travel internationally without restrictions
Compensation and Benefits:
- The discussed salary range is $75,000 - $80,000 , depending on experience
- Candidates with additional experience and higher compensation expectations may also be considered
