Position Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Senior DevOps Engineer to help manage and evolve our cloud infrastructure, CI/CD processes, configuration management, and development operations.

This role will have significant responsibility for our AWS infrastructure, Chef environment, CI/CD pipelines, and day-to-day support of the Development team. The Senior DevOps Engineer will work closely with Development and IT Operations to improve the reliability, security, automation, and maintainability of our systems.

A key objective of this position is to establish additional technical and operational ownership of our DevOps environment. The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently and developing a thorough understanding of our infrastructure, Chef configuration, and deployment processes to provide reliable backup coverage for critical DevOps responsibilities.

Core responsibilities will include the following areas:

- AWS Infrastructure: Manage, monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize our AWS environments with a focus on reliability, security, scalability, and cost.
- Chef Administration: Administer and maintain our Chef environment used to build, configure, and manage systems. Develop and maintain cookbooks, recipes, roles, environments, and related automation.
- System Build & Configuration: Use Chef and supporting automation to provision, configure, update, and maintain consistent systems across environments.
- CI/CD: Own, maintain,



and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes, with an emphasis on automation, reliability, and repeatability.
- Infrastructure as Code: Maintain and improve infrastructure provisioning using AWS CloudFormation and related Infrastructure as Code technologies.
- Developer Support: Work closely with developers to troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment, environment, and application-related issues.
- Monitoring & Operations: Maintain and improve monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational tooling across our environments.
- Security: Maintain strong cloud security practices, including IAM, network security, vulnerability management, patching, and security monitoring.
- Networking: Support network infrastructure and connectivity between AWS and our North American locations.
- Automation: Develop and maintain scripts and tooling to automate operational and development processes.
- Containers: Support containerized application environments using technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures to ensure critical systems can be effectively supported by multiple team members.
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements to our infrastructure and development workflows.
- Work closely with Development and IT Operations to provide the tools, environments, and resources required for efficient software delivery.
- Provide independent operational coverage for critical DevOps responsibilities when other team members are unavailable.
- Additional duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

- 5+ years of relevant DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or systems engineering experience, with demonstrated ability to work independently in production environments.
- Strong hands-on experience managing AWS infrastructure and services.
- Strong hands-on experience administering Chef in production environments, including development and maintenance of cookbooks, recipes, roles, environments, and configuration management workflows.
- Strong knowledge of Linux systems administration and troubleshooting.
- Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly AWS CloudFormation; Terraform or similar experience is beneficial.




- Experience with application containerization using Docker and exposure to orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of AWS networking, including VPCs, routing, security groups, VPNs, and related technologies.
- Strong understanding of cloud security, IAM, secrets management, vulnerability management, and security best practices.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, or similar.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to independently diagnose infrastructure, deployment, and production issues.
- Ability to work effectively with Development and IT Operations teams and provide technical support to developers.
- Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred, but not required.

Position Pay Range

- $88,000 to $116,000 per year based on experience and other factors
- Position eligible for annual bonus plan based on a percentage of annual salary.
