Who we are?

The Primary Construction Team consists of ACCIONA Infrastructure Canada Inc. (ACCIONA) and Amico Major Projects Inc. (Amico), as Trillium Guideway Partners (TGP).

What is the project?

The Ontario Line (“OL”) is a fully integrated, stand-alone, rapid transit system that connects Ontario Science Centre to the Exhibition and Ontario Place grounds.

The Northern

Civil, Stations and Tunnel (“NC”) project consist of approximately 7 kms of underground subway and elevated guideway, with stations along the segment providing connections to surface bus and streetcar routes. The NC project has been divided into two main progressive design-build contracts: (1) the Elevated Guideways and Stations Contract (“EGS”) and the Pape Tunnel and Underground Station Contract (“PTUS”), with supporting Early Works.

What is the Opportunity?

As the Senior Estimator, your role is essential in ensuring the financial viability and success of the Development and Construction phases. You will be responsible for providing accurate cost estimates, and risk assessments for the project, facilitating informed decision-making and cost effective solutions.

Responsibilities

Development Phase:

- Leading in Cost Estimation, involving meticulous analysis of civil construction project requirements, standards, and specifications to develop the target price overarching project goals.
- Participating in Working Group Meeting, as needed.
- Identifying Cost-Saving Opportunities scrutinizing project components and processes for cost efficiencies.
- Analyzing cost trends and anticipating budget variances enables the identification of opportunities for enhancing cost-effectiveness.

Cost Estimation:

- Prepare detailed cost estimates for various components of the project, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Utilize historical data, industry benchmarks, and current market conditions to develop accurate cost projections.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documents to identify scope requirements and cost drivers.




- Incorporate value engineering and cost-saving measures to optimize project budgets without
- compromising quality or safety.

Cost Measurement:

- Conduct thorough quantity takeoffs from project drawings and specifications to quantify materials, labor hours, and other resources required for construction.
- Apply standard measurement methods and industry best practices to ensure consistency and accuracy in quantity calculations.
- Verify quantities against project requirements and specifications to identify discrepancies or potential scope changes.

Tender Preparation and Submission:

- Prepare comprehensive bid packages in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) or Requests for Bids (RFBs) from clients or project owners.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to solicit competitive bids and pricing for project components and services.
- Review bid documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements before submission.
- Present cost estimates and bid proposals to senior management and participate in bid review meetings as needed.

Risk Assessment:

- Evaluate project risks and uncertainties, such as market fluctuations, regulatory changes, and unforeseen conditions, and incorporate risk factors into cost estimates.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address identified risks and minimize cost impacts.

Value Engineering and Cost Optimization:

- Collaborate with design and construction teams to identify value engineering opportunities and alternative solutions that enhance project efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Evaluate lifecycle costs and long-term benefits of different design and construction alternatives to support informed decision-making.




- Recommend cost-effective design modifications or construction methods that maintain project quality while reducing overall project costs.
- Conduct detailed cost analysis to identify cost drivers, trends, and potential cost-saving opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

- Work collaboratively with project stakeholders, including clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors, to gather project information and requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate cost estimates into project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Provide timely and accurate cost-related information to support project decision-making and strategic planning efforts.

Qualifications

- Post secondary degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of experience in construction/infrastructure cost estimating, including preparing detailed estimates for materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Solid experience with quantity takeoffs, cost measurement, and analysis using project drawings, specifications, historical data, market conditions, and industry benchmarks.
- Experience preparing and reviewing tenders, bid packages, RFPs/RFBs, including coordinating pricing with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
- Proven ability to conduct cost analysis, risk assessment, value engineering, and cost optimization to identify savings opportunities and manage budget variances.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working with project teams, clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and senior management to support cost and project decisions.
- Expert level proficiency in specialized industry software; including HeavyBid, Bluebleam Revu, On-screen Takeoff (OST), Sage Estimating or Timerline to perform rapid, highly accurate digital measurements and cost roll-ups.

Work Conditions

- Ability to work from the Don Mills office five days per week, with occasional site visits.
