About Synergy IT

Synergy IT is seeking an experienced Senior IT Consultant to provide strategic technology and cybersecurity leadership to Synergy IT’s end clients.

This is a flexible, part-time/freelance consulting prospect for a senior technology professional who can operate as a Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO), Virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO), or both, depending on client needs.

The consultant will work directly with client executives, business owners, IT teams, and other stakeholders to provide strategic guidance, governance, cybersecurity leadership, technology planning, and ongoing advisory services.

Role Overview The Senior IT Consultant will act as a trusted technology and security advisor to selected Synergy IT clients.

The ideal candidate can move comfortably between business strategy, IT operations, cybersecurity, risk management, compliance, and executive-level communication. This person should be able to assess a client's current environment, identify gaps and risks, develop practical roadmaps, and help leadership make informed technology and security decisions.

The role is well suited to an experienced CIO, CISO, IT Director, technology executive, or senior IT/security consultant who wants to work with multiple organizations on a flexible consulting basis.

Key ResponsibilitiesvCIO / Strategic IT Leadership

- Serve as a trusted technology advisor to client executives and business owners.
- Develop and maintain IT strategic plans and technology roadmaps.
- Assess existing IT infrastructure, applications, vendors, processes, and service delivery.
- Align technology investments with business objectives and growth plans.
- Develop IT budgets, technology investment recommendations, and multi-year plans.
- Review and optimize IT operating models, policies, processes, and governance.
- Evaluate technology vendors, managed service providers, cloud providers, and technology solutions.
- Provide guidance on cloud strategy, infrastructure modernization, business applications, and digital transformation.
- Identify technology risks, dependencies, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Participate in executive and management meetings as the client's strategic IT advisor.
- Provide independent recommendations regarding technology purchases and major IT decisions.

vCISO / Cybersecurity Leadership
- Serve as a virtual cybersecurity executive and trusted security advisor.
- Assess clients' cybersecurity maturity, risks, controls, and security programs.
- Develop and maintain cybersecurity strategies and roadmaps.
- Establish and improve security policies, standards, procedures, and governance.
- Conduct security risk assessments and provide prioritized remediation recommendations.
- Advise clients on identity and access management, endpoint security, network security, cloud security, data protection, and security monitoring.
- Support security awareness and cybersecurity training initiatives.




- Assist clients with incident response planning and cybersecurity preparedness.
- Provide guidance regarding vulnerability management, penetration testing, security assessments, and third-party risk.
- Support cybersecurity compliance and regulatory requirements relevant to the client's industry.
- Assist with security frameworks such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS, or other applicable frameworks.
- Help clients prepare for audits, assessments, cyber insurance requirements, and customer security reviews.

Client Advisory & Consulting
- Establish strong relationships with client executives and key stakeholders.
- Translate complex IT and cybersecurity issues into clear business language.
- Prepare executive-level reports, assessments, roadmaps, presentations, and recommendations.
- Lead periodic technology and cybersecurity reviews with clients.
- Track strategic initiatives, risks, action items, and remediation plans.
- Provide practical, business-focused recommendations rather than overly theoretical solutions.
- Coordinate with Synergy IT's technical teams and other service providers to ensure recommendations are effectively implemented.
- Identify opportunities where Synergy IT can provide additional technology, cybersecurity, managed services, or consulting support.
- Maintain professional independence and provide objective advice based on the client's business requirements.

Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in IT, cybersecurity, technology leadership, consulting, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience operating at a CIO, CISO, IT Director, senior IT management, or equivalent consulting level.
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, governance, risk management, and technology strategy.
- Experience working directly with CEOs, business owners, executive teams, and senior management.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, controls, risk management, and security governance.
- Ability to conduct IT and cybersecurity assessments and translate findings into actionable roadmaps.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple clients and priorities independently.
- Strong business acumen and ability to connect technology decisions to business outcomes.
- Comfortable working in a client-facing consulting environment.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with Synergy IT's internal teams.

Preferred Qualifications & Certifications One or more of the following would be an asset:
- CISSP
- CISM
- CISA
- CRISC
- CCISO
- PMP
- ITIL




- Microsoft, Azure, AWS, or other relevant cloud certifications
- NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS, or other compliance experience
- Previous CIO, CISO, CTO, IT Director, or senior consulting experience

Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a seasoned technology leader who can represent Synergy IT professionally in front of senior client stakeholders. You should be comfortable walking into an organization, understanding its business and technology environment, identifying the most key risks and opportunities, and creating a practical plan to move the organization forward.

You don't necessarily need to be the person implementing every technical solution. Instead, you should be able to lead, advise, challenge, prioritize, and coordinate while working with technical teams and vendors to achieve the desired outcome.

Engagement Model This position is intended as a part-time, freelance/contract consulting engagement.

The consultant may support multiple Synergy IT clients simultaneously, with workload varying according to client requirements.

- Cybersecurity assessments
- IT and cybersecurity roadmaps
- Executive technology advisory
- Compliance and governance support
- Technology project advisory
- Vendor and technology reviews
- Ongoing monthly advisory services

The consultant will work closely with Synergy IT leadership to determine client priorities, scope of work, deliverables, and engagement expectations.

Pay: $75.00-$150.00 per hour
