The Senior Manager, Investment Specialist is an investment skilled responsible for developing and representing deep expertise in Mackenzie investment strategies and translating that expertise into clear, differentiated and decision-useful insights for clients, Sales, Product and other functional teams at Mackenzie.
This role requires highly advanced knowledge of investment management, including investment philosophy and process, portfolio construction, positioning, performance and attribution, combined with the judgment and communication skills to translate complex investment concepts for a range of audiences.
Working closely with Portfolio Managers, the Investment Specialist owns the accurate and effective representation of assigned strategies across the organization and externally, including explaining performance, portfolio positioning and investment decisions through changing market environments. Operating with a high degree of independence, the Senior Manager is expected to anticipate stakeholder needs, resolve complex investment and operational issues, and continually improve how investment insights and expertise are delivered and scaled across the organization.
The Senior Manager, Investment Specialist will contribute to Mackenzie's growth in the following areas:
Investment Representation and Boutique Alignment
- Develop and maintain deep expertise in the investment philosophy, process, portfolio construction, positioning and performance of assigned investment strategies.
- Work closely with Portfolio Managers to understand investment decisions, portfolio activity, positioning and views on relevant market developments.
- Own the accurate and consistent representation of assigned investment strategies across internal and external audiences.
- Explain investment performance and attribution, including the portfolio decisions and market factors driving results.
- Translate complex investment insights into clear, differentiated narratives that are relevant and useful to clients, Sales, Product and other stakeholders.
- Ensure investment content and messaging remain aligned with Portfolio Manager views and investment team expectations.
- Represent assigned strategies confidently through changing market and performance environments, including periods of challenging performance.
Sales Partnership and Client Engagement
- Build strong, responsive partnerships with Sales and serve as a resource for assigned strategies.
- Translate investment expertise into practical guidance that supports advisor and client conversations, investment positioning and business development.
- Proactively understand Sales priorities, client needs, objections and demand signals and determine where Investment Specialist expertise can have the greatest impact.
- Develop and deliver investment and product education and training that strengthens Sales understanding of investment strategies and their points of differentiation.
- Support advisor and client meetings requiring deeper investment expertise and respond to sophisticated investment questions from clients, consultants and Distribution.
- Provide timely, targeted and relevant support, prioritizing quality and impact over volume.
- Help Sales understand the investment rationale for strategies, their relevant applications and how they may contribute within client portfolios.
Portfolio Construction Enablement
- Develop clear perspectives on how assigned strategies may contribute within portfolios, including their positioning, exposures, investment characteristics and potential role in asset allocation.
- Support the appropriate representation of boutique investment mandates within Guided Portfolios and their positioning within GIC views.
- Deliver accurate, timely and high-quality investment and product content for Retail and Institutional audiences.
- Develop and maintain portfolio commentaries, QFRs, MFRPs, presentations and other required investment materials.
- Clearly articulate investment performance, portfolio positioning, investment rationale and relevant market developments across materials.
- Support Institutional Sales with RFI and DDQ responses, presentation materials and other investment-related client and prospect requirements.
- Participate in institutional due diligence, client meetings and presentations where deeper strategy expertise is required.
- Coordinate effectively with Portfolio Managers, Sales, Product and other stakeholders to ensure the accuracy, consistency and timely delivery of investment materials.
Operational Excellence, Process Improvement and Innovation
- Identify and resolve operational issues and opportunities that affect the quality, timeliness or scalability of investment support.
- Improve how investment information is developed, coordinated, shared and used across Investment, Product and Sales teams.
- Develop and implement processes, tools and frameworks that improve consistency, quality and efficiency.
- Leverage data, technology and AI appropriately to enhance productivity, quality and scalability.
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and work effectively across organizational boundaries to resolve complex problems.
- Challenge existing approaches where appropriate and identify better ways to deliver and scale Investment Specialist expertise.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant experience in asset management, wealth management, investment research, investment product management or a related investment role.
- Highly advanced knowledge of capital markets, investment management and investment strategies.
- Strong understanding of investment philosophy and process, portfolio construction, positioning, performance and attribution.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze investment strategies and translate complex investment information into clear and practical conclusions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
The expected annual base salary range for this role is $107,500 - $134,500 which is determined based on skills, knowledge and experience and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for annual short-term incentive, health and well-being benefits, retirement and savings plan, paid time off and career development.
