Sessional Instructor: UNIV 304, Faculty of Arts The Faculty of Arts in partnership with the Office of Signature Learning Experiences, and in alignment with the University of Calgary commitment to ii' taa'poh'to'p, invites applications for a Winter 2027 Term Sessional Instructor. The successful candidate will have responsibilities for lecture instruction and any other associated duties for this 3-unit course during the Winter 2027 term.

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut'ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Metis Nation within Alberta (including Nose Hill Metis District 5 and Elbow Metis District 6).

University 304 - Experiential Learning in the Workplace

UNIV 304 is an introduction to the foundational and transferable skills that support success in workplace, volunteer and professional settings. Through a current paid work, volunteer or career exploration experience, students will identify skills that support their success in the experience, reflect on strengths and areas for future growth, and learn how to articulate academic and foundational skills to employers. Foundational skills include; communication, creativity and innovation, problem solving, adaptability and collaboration.

This section of the course, exclusively for Indigenous students, will also be known as "Setting out: a Journey of Transformation and Renewal." The course is designed to support Indigenous students on a journey of personal growth, transformation, and renewal. Grounded in the knowledge of the Peoples of Treaty 7, and guided by the University of Calgary's Indigenous strategy ii' taa'poh'to'p, the course parallels Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, being, and connecting with Western approaches to career development and foundational skill-building. Foundational skills include communication, creativity, problem solving, adaptability and collaboration.

Winter 2027 Term Dates: Monday, January 4, 2027, to Friday, April 30, 2027.

Teaching Schedule: Wednesdays, 3:00-5:45 PM

Qualifications

- A graduate degree in education, indigenous studies, a related field appropriate to experiential learning in the workplace, or similar background.
- Experience demonstrating deep understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing
- Demonstrated Indigenous knowledge and/or meaningful connections to Indigenous communities
- A commitment to inclusive teaching practices that honour Indigenous perspectives and promote student belonging
- Experience with the Desire 2 Learn (D2L)



course management system, knowledge of best practices for assessments, and techniques for engaging students will be considered assets.
- Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level is a strong asset.
