Job Summary

Burton Construction is looking for a skilled and dependable Construction Labourer / Carpenter to join our team in Greater Sudbury.

We are looking for someone with real construction experience who is comfortable working with their hands, using tools, solving problems, and taking on a variety of tasks. You do not need to be a licensed carpenter, but you should have a solid understanding of construction and be able to contribute productively on site without requiring constant supervision.

Our work is varied and includes new home construction, foundations, concrete, framing, renovations, additions, excavation and civil work, septic systems, drainage, and exterior construction. One week may involve forming and pouring concrete, while another may involve framing, siding, interior work, or working alongside our excavation crew.

This position is best suited to someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work, and wants to be part of a crew that handles projects from the ground up.

Responsibilities

- Assist with and perform general carpentry, framing, forming, concrete, exterior and renovation work
- Measure, cut, assemble and install building materials accurately
- Read measurements, layouts, plans and drawings as required
- Safely operate common hand and power tools
- Assist with foundations, concrete forming and reinforcing steel
- Perform demolition, site preparation and general construction work
- Assist with excavation, drainage, septic and civil/site work when required
- Install framing, sheathing, siding and other building components
- Load, unload and move construction materials and equipment
- Maintain an organized and safe jobsite
- Work effectively with other crew members and subcontractors
- Identify problems and communicate with the foreman or project lead
- Complete work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship

- Have previous hands-on construction experience
- Be competent and comfortable using construction tools
- Understand basic construction methods and sequencing
- Be able to take measurements and work accurately
- Be physically capable of performing construction work throughout the day
- Be dependable and show up on time
- Be able to follow direction but also work independently when given a task
- Take pride in doing work properly rather than simply getting it done
- Be willing to work on different types of projects and learn new skills
- Work well as part of a crew
- Understand the importance of jobsite safety
- Have a valid driver's licence and reliable transportation

Experience with carpentry, framing, concrete/formwork, foundations, renovations, siding, excavation or civil construction is considered an asset. A carpentry licence or Red Seal is not required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Based on experience and demonstrated ability

Work Location: Various job sites throughout Greater Sudbury and surrounding areas

Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 44.0 per week
