Role Description The Sr Project Estimator is a full-time, hybrid role based in Toronto, ON, with flexibility for partial work from home. This role is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for commercial and residential construction projects, including reviewing drawings and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, and analyzing labor, material, and subcontractor costs.

The Sr Project

Estimator collaborates with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to clarify scope, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support bid preparation and tender submissions. Day-to-day activities include updating cost databases, assessing project risks, preparing budgets and change order pricing, and ensuring estimates align with client requirements and NAGC standards.



The role also involves participating in pre-construction meetings, supporting value engineering efforts, and contributing to continuous improvement in estimating processes.

Qualifications

- Strong construction estimating skills, including quantity take-offs, cost analysis, and budget preparation for commercial and residential projects.
- Proficiency with estimating software and tools, as well as MS Excel and other relevant project management applications.
- Solid understanding of construction methods, building codes, trades, and materials across sectors such as retail, medical offices, gas stations, and residential builds.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings and specifications with high attention to detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation abilities, with a focus on value engineering and cost optimization.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior or lead estimator role within a general contracting or construction environment.
- Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines, prioritize tasks, and maintain accuracy under time constraints.
- Skilled designations (e.g., PQS, Gold Seal Certification) and experience with Canadian construction standards are considered assets.
