The Opportunity

McElhanney is seeking a Survey Technologist to join our Construction and Technical Surveys team in Metro Vancouver. Working primarily in the field with Land Surveyors, Civil Engineers, and GIS professionals, you'll contribute to a diverse range of construction, infrastructure, and technical survey projects across the region.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional who enjoys combining field work, technology, and problem-solving in a collaborative environment. You'll work with both conventional survey equipment and advanced technologies, including GNSS, laser scanning, and Tracker, while supporting the successful delivery of complex projects.

What You’ll Do

- Work as part of a survey field crew or independently, collecting accurate survey data and maintaining detailed field notes and sketches.
- Conduct conventional and GNSS/GPS surveys for topographic, engineering, and construction projects.
- Perform construction layout and as-built surveys.
- Assist with data collection using Scanners, Tracker, and other survey technologies.
- Adhere to company safety and quality policies and procedures in all field activities.
- Download, edit, and manage conventional and GNSS survey data.
- Interpret survey, engineering, and architectural drawings.
- Support project coordination.

What You’ll Bring

- Diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology or a related discipline.




- 5+ years of construction survey experience.
- Knowledge of survey calculations, coordinate systems, datums, and map projections.
- Experience with Leica and Trimble instruments and field software.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather, terrain, and remote environments.
- Ability to lift and carry survey equipment.
- Strong commitment to safety.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Assets:
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Leica Infinity, Spatial Analyzer, Trimble Business Center, and Trimble Access.
- Experience with RPAS systems and a Basic or Advanced Pilot Certificate.

What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
