The Position

PGR is looking for a Track Maintainer to join our field operations team.

This is a hands-on position supporting the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of railway track infrastructure at customer and project locations.

At PGR, we believe in developing well-rounded railway professionals. While track maintenance will be a primary part of this position, team members may have opportunities to learn and work in multiple areas of our operation based on their experience, qualifications, training, and interests.

One day may involve replacing ties and surfacing track. Another may involve assisting an equipment operator, working on a switch, supporting an industrial customer, or helping another PGR crew complete a project.

Versatility is part of how we operate.

What You'll Be Doing

- Perform railway track maintenance, repairs, and rehabilitation.
- Replace ties, spikes, anchors, bolts, plates, fasteners, and other track components.
- Assist with rail replacement and track repairs.
- Perform track gauging, alignment, lifting, levelling, and surfacing.
- Assist with ballast placement, distribution, tamping, and regulating.
- Assist with switch and crossing maintenance and rehabilitation.
- Operate hand tools, hydraulic tools, power tools, and track maintenance equipment.
- Assist with the operation of loaders, excavators, backhoes, hi-rail equipment, and other heavy equipment.
- Load, unload, and organize rail, ties, ballast, tools, and materials.
- Participate in daily job briefings and Job Hazard Assessments.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe worksites.
- Support other PGR railway operations and projects based on qualifications and operational requirements.
- Follow PGR, customer, railway, and regulatory safety requirements.

Previous railway experience is an asset, but we're also interested in people coming from construction, civil work, heavy equipment, agriculture, industrial maintenance, and other hands-on environments.

Experience operating hi-rail vehicles and equipment, loaders, excavators, backhoes, and rail-based Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) equipment is considered a strong asset.

Experience with tampers, ballast regulators, tie handling or replacement equipment, rail saws, hydraulic tools, and other railway maintenance equipment is also an asset.

- Ability to safely lift and carry approximately 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working on railway ballast and uneven terrain.
- Comfortable working outdoors in Manitoba weather conditions.

- Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and railway operations.




- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Willingness to travel to customer and project locations.

- Availability for extended hours, evenings, weekends, or changing schedules when projects require it.

Class 1 or Class 3 driver's licences, Air Brake endorsement, railway qualifications, heavy-equipment experience, and equipment certifications are considered assets.

Working Conditions Railway maintenance is physically demanding outdoor work. Candidates should expect changing weather, uneven terrain, ballast, noise, dust, vibration, heavy equipment, and active industrial environments.

Projects may require early starts, extended days, travel, overtime, evenings, or weekend work.

Pay: $21.00-$28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 50.0 per week
