Caution Tape Robotics Club is hiring a VEX V5RC / EV Engineering Coach to mentor high-school students in competition robotics and hands-on engineering projects.

Schedule

- Saturdays, possibly Sunday
- 4-12 hours per week

Location: 205 Riviera Drive, Unit 2, Markham, Ontario

Responsibilities

Before Class

- Review team progress, goals and upcoming competition milestones
- Prepare tools, materials and equipment
- Identify technical or safety issues that may affect the session

During Class
- Coach students through robot design, building, programming, testing and troubleshooting
- Support mechanical systems, drivetrain, mechanisms, pneumatics and VEXcode/C++
- Guide driver practice, autonomous development and competition preparation
- Support EV-related mechanical, electrical, CAD and fabrication projects where applicable
- Keep projects student-led by guiding students toward solutions rather than building for them
- Maintain a safe, organized and productive workshop environment

After Class
- Record team progress and outstanding technical issues
- Ensure tools, batteries and work areas are properly reset
- Communicate important updates to the program lead
- Build positive relationships with parents through brief updates and conversations when appropriate

Requirements Previous VEX V5RC competition experience is required.

Applicants must





- Have competed in VEX V5RC as a student, coach or mentor
- Understand the V5RC competition workplace and season workflow
- Be comfortable with VEX V5 hardware and mechanical systems
- Have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Be able to communicate technical concepts clearly to teenagers
- Be reliable and able to commit consistently on Saturdays

Preferred Technical Skills:

- VEX V5 mechanical design
- Drivetrain, gearing and mechanisms
- Pneumatics
- VEXcode / C++
- Autonomous programming
- CAD: Onshape, SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or similar
- Electrical systems and wiring
- Motors and motor controllers
- Fabrication and prototyping
- EV or automotive engineering
