Oak Animal Hospital is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and team-oriented Veterinary Technician to join our care team.

The Veterinary

Technician plays an significant role in providing safe, timely, and compassionate care to ill and injured patients. This position supports veterinarians with case management, diagnostics, treatments, anesthesia, client education, and patient advocacy. The ideal candidate is technically skilled, calm under pressure, attentive to detail, and committed to excellent patient care and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide advanced restraint and safe handling of ill or injured patients.
- Place and maintain IV catheters.
- Administer medications and accurately calculate fluid and medication doses.
- Assist with intubation and monitoring general anesthesia.
- Monitor patients using continuous vital-sign monitoring equipment.
- Perform advanced diagnostics, including venipuncture.
- Maintain accurate medical records and logs in real time.
- Performing Dental Scaling and polishing under general anesthesia.

Outpatient and Procedural Support
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, imaging, and urgent outpatient procedures.
- Provide medication demonstrations and confirm discharge instructions with clients.
- Prepare samples for submission to external laboratories.
- Run internal laboratory tests and follow up on results.
- Ensure patients are properly admitted and discharged with accurate communication between the medical and client-care teams.

Client Support
- Communicate clearly, calmly, and empathetically with clients during high-stress situations.
- Provide guidance regarding aftercare, medication administration,



and home monitoring.
- Support euthanasia procedures with compassion, professionalism, and respect.
- Reinforce veterinarian recommendations and treatment plans.
- Assist with client questions, estimates, and treatment-related communication.

Hospital Readiness and Maintenance
- Maintain the sterile surgical suite and aseptic treatment areas.
- Cleaning and restocking.
- Sterilize and prepare surgical packs, instruments, and diagnostic equipment.
- Dispose of biohazardous materials properly.
- Maintain isolation protocols.
- Support the receiving and storage of medical inventory and supplies.
- Help ensure the hospital remains prepared for emergency cases.

Administrative and Team Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records and logs.
- Attend mandatory training, continuing-education sessions, and emergency simulation drills.
- Contribute to a respectful, collaborative, and patient-focused workplace.
- Uphold confidentiality, ethical standards, and hospital protocols.
- Work closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and client-care representatives.

Qualifications and SkillsThe successful candidate will:
- Have experience working as a Veterinary Technician in a general practice, emergency,



or critical-care setting.
- Be comfortable working in a fast-paced and occasionally high-pressure environment.
- Have strong technical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrate sound judgment and attention to detail.
- Be compassionate toward patients, clients, and team members.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Be committed to patient safety, advocacy, and high-quality veterinary care.
- Be willing to participate in ongoing training and continuing education.
