About Prime Freight

Prime Freight is a Montreal freight forwarder that has moved ocean, air and road shipments for more than 30 years. We also build our own software. Our in-house platform runs quoting, bookings and shipment tracking for the whole business, and our six-person development team keeps adding to it.

Right now we are moving large parts of that platform off a low-code system and into our own services, and automating how we quote and sell ocean and air freight. That's the work you'd be part of.

How we build

We write a lot of our code with AI tools like Claude (including Claude Code) and GitHub Copilot. You'll use them every day, and you'll learn how to guide them well and check what they produce before it ships.

Timing

Start in October 2026, or January 2027 if you're looking for a winter term. Runs through April 2027.

What you'll work on

- Build and maintain backend services and APIs in Node.js (JavaScript, moving toward TypeScript)
- Write GraphQL queries and integrations against our platform data: shipments, bookings, rates and invoices
- Help migrate features from our low-code platform (Betty Blocks) into code we own
- Automate steps our operations and sales teams still do by hand
- Ship through our real process: branch, pull request,



code review (human and AI), SonarCloud checks, deploy preview
- Write tests and fix bugs, including the boring ones

What we're looking for

- Currently enrolled in computer science, software engineering or a related program
- Comfortable with JavaScript, with some Node.js or Express experience
- Something you built, in class or on your own, that you can show us
- You like finding out why something broke, not just making the error go away
- You communicate clearly and ask questions early

Nice to have

- Experience coding with AI tools like Claude, Claude Code, Copilot or Cursor
- TypeScript, React, GraphQL or SQL
- Any exposure to Google Cloud, Docker or CI tools
- Interest in logistics or how goods move around the world (not required, we'll teach you)
