Workday Payroll, Time & Absence Functional Lead

Location: Remote within Canada

Contract Term: One year with potential for extension

Schedule: 40 hours per week

Rate: $120–$150 per hour

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Workday Payroll, Time & Absence Functional Lead to support a multi-year ERP harmonization initiative within the energy sector.

This individual will serve as the functional subject-matter expert for Workday Payroll, Time Tracking and Absence, partnering with HRIS, Payroll, Finance, Digital, integration teams and implementation partners to align the existing Workday environment with Oracle Fusion.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the Workday Payroll, Time Tracking and Absence workstream.
- Facilitate requirements gathering and process-design workshops.
- Assess existing configurations and identify opportunities for reuse or optimization.
- Identify configuration gaps associated with the Oracle Fusion integration.
- Document requirements, design decisions, risks and dependencies.
- Lead system integration testing, payroll parallel testing, user acceptance testing and payroll validation.
- Coordinate defect triage and resolution.
- Review related integrations, data flows and upstream and downstream impacts.
- Support reporting, security,



data migration and change-management activities.
- Assist with cutover, payroll readiness, hypercare and stabilization.
- Complete knowledge transfer for internal HRIS, HR and Payroll teams.

Required Qualifications:
- Eight or more years of Workday functional experience.
- Advanced expertise in Workday Payroll, Time Tracking and Absence.
- Experience supporting large-scale ERP, business-transformation or system-harmonization initiatives.
- Proven experience across requirements gathering, solution design, testing, deployment and stabilization.
- Strong knowledge of payroll processing, time management and absence administration.
- Experience working with integrations and complex enterprise systems.
- Robust communication, facilitation and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting acquisitions, mergers, legal-entity consolidations or employee migrations.
- Experience migrating employees into an existing Workday tenant.
- Knowledge of unionized workforces and complex pay practices.
- Familiarity with Canadian payroll legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Experience in the energy, utilities, manufacturing or industrial sectors.
- Exposure to Oracle Fusion integrations.
