Position Summary The Supervisor, Freight Operations – Night FAC / Linehaul Operations is responsible for supervising and coordinating overnight motor transportation and freight operations from XPO's Mississauga Freight Assembly Center (FAC). The position directly supervises drivers and other operational employees and is responsible for establishing work priorities, assigning employees, planning linehaul and dock operations, coordinating trailer and equipment movements, and making real-time operational decisions to ensure freight moves safely, efficiently and within required service commitments.

The position operates on a regular 7:30 p.m. start time, during a critical period of XPO's transportation network when freight is consolidated, trailers are loaded and dispatched, and linehaul movements are coordinated between service centres. The Supervisor manages inbound, outbound and FAC activities while responding to changing freight volumes, staffing levels, equipment availability, capacity requirements, service exceptions and unexpected operational disruptions.

The Supervisor's responsibilities extend beyond the Mississauga service centre and include coordinating linehaul, trailer and freight movements across XPO's Canadian network; supporting Ontario markets managed from Mississauga where XPO does not maintain a local service centre; coordinating local pickup and delivery requirements; and supporting Canada–United States cross-border operations. The role requires the ability to address customs and bonded-freight requirements, CBSA inspections, applicable U.S. FDA requirements, held freight, documentation issues and other transportation exceptions that may affect scheduled service.

The Supervisor also oversees equipment availability, condition, maintenance and repair requirements. This includes coordinating equipment transfers and repairs with maintenance facilities, maintaining equipment service status in XPO's operational systems, integrating repairs with scheduled transportation movements where appropriate, and performing minor authorized trailer repairs and adjustments when necessary. The position requires independent judgment and ownership of time-sensitive operational issues through resolution or effective transition to the subsequent operating shift.

Key Responsibilities

Night FAC, Linehaul and Transportation Operations

- Lead and supervise assigned overnight FAC and transportation operations from the Mississauga service centre.
- Plan, coordinate and execute scheduled linehaul operations, including Friday evening-to-Saturday morning linehaul coverage as assigned.
- Establish operational priorities and transportation plans based on freight volumes, service commitments, staffing, driver availability, equipment availability and capacity requirements.
- Assign and coordinate drivers and other operational employees to meet scheduled transportation and freight requirements.
- Monitor scheduled linehaul movements and arrange coverage for overages, shortages, missed pickups, additional freight and other capacity requirements.
- Arrange additional or alternate linehaul movements, including VIA movements through intermediate XPO service centres, when required to address freight volumes, capacity constraints, missed service, or other operational requirements and maintain scheduled service commitments.
- Coordinate with XPO terminals and service centres to ensure freight is moved within required service commitments.
- Monitor linehaul arrivals and departures and take corrective action where scheduled movements or downstream connections are at risk.
- Make real-time adjustments to routing, driver assignments, equipment utilization, freight priorities and transportation plans in response to operational conditions.
- Take ownership of significant operational exceptions arising during the overnight shift and coordinate them through resolution or effective transition to the subsequent operating team.

Linehaul, Freight and Capacity Planning

- Plan and execute outbound linehaul movements serving Canadian and Canada–United States destinations.
- Coordinate outbound movements for domestic XPO terminals and service centres.
- Plan and coordinate city pickup and delivery activities supporting designated XPO service areas and locations.
- Monitor freight volumes and identify anticipated capacity constraints, overages and service risks.
- Develop and implement operational solutions to ensure freight moves on the appropriate service and within required timelines.
- Arrange additional linehaul capacity, alternate routing through intermediate service centres (VIA movements), equipment and pickup resources when required to address capacity constraints or protect service commitments.
- Evaluate the impact of changing freight volumes, staffing levels, driver availability, equipment availability and service requirements and adjust transportation plans accordingly.
- Communicate material transportation and service changes to affected terminals, drivers, dock teams and operational leadership.
- Coordinate transportation activities serving Ontario markets managed through Mississauga where XPO does not maintain a local service centre, including Ottawa, Brockville and Cornwall.

Outbound, Inbound and FAC Dock Operations

- Plan and execute daily inbound and outbound dock operations in coordination with FAC and linehaul requirements.
- Develop dock plans based on freight volumes, service schedules, available doors, staffing and trailer requirements.
- Coordinate freight flow and door utilization to support timely loading, unloading and departure of trailers.
- Coordinate shunt movements to ensure trailers and equipment are appropriately positioned for inbound, outbound, FAC and local transportation requirements.




- Monitor dock activity throughout the shift and make real-time adjustments to staffing, trailer positioning, freight priorities and dock plans to maintain service levels.
- Coordinate dock activity with linehaul plans to minimize freight delays and missed transportation connections.
- Ensure freight requiring special handling, documentation or clearance is appropriately identified and managed.
- Maintain required dock operating standards while balancing safety, service, productivity and cost objectives.

Canada–United States Cross-Border Operations

- Coordinate and monitor Canada–United States freight and linehaul movements involving the Mississauga FAC and XPO's North American transportation network.
- Plan and coordinate movements involving freight subject to U.S. Food and Drug Administration requirements.
- Monitor cross-border shipment status using applicable transportation and customs systems, including identifying freight that has not cleared, has been placed on hold or requires additional documentation.
- Address operational requirements associated with customs clearance, bonded shipments, customs holds and other cross-border exceptions.
- Liaise with Canada Border Services Agency personnel in connection with freight, trailer or vehicle inspections when required.
- Coordinate operational follow-up arising from CBSA inspections, customs holds, missing documentation or other border-related requirements.
- Work with drivers, service centres, customs resources and operational teams to resolve cross-border exceptions and minimize delays.
- Provide appropriate operational direction to drivers and employees regarding cross-border movements, documentation and special freight-handling requirements.

Equipment Coordination, Maintenance and Repair

- Monitor the availability, location, condition and utilization of trailers and other transportation equipment required to support linehaul, FAC and local pickup and delivery operations.
- Ensure appropriate equipment is available at the required locations to support scheduled transportation activities.
- Identify equipment defects and maintenance requirements and determine the appropriate operational response.
- Coordinate equipment requiring repairs or maintenance for transfer to designated XPO maintenance locations or other appropriate repair facilities.
- Communicate with maintenance shops and repair teams regarding equipment availability, transfers, repairs, completion status and operational requirements.
- Coordinate with the Freight Operations Manager regarding tools, replacement items and other materials required for repairs that fall within the service centre's responsibility.
- Integrate equipment maintenance with scheduled linehaul movements where operationally appropriate to minimize downtime, unnecessary equipment movements and service disruption.
- Update equipment status in XPO's applicable equipment or shipment-management systems, including placing equipment out of service when required and returning it to active service electronically following completion of repairs and required validation.
- Perform minor authorized trailer repairs and operational adjustments within the Supervisor's capability where the work can be completed safely and appropriately.
- Ensure equipment remains subject to required driver inspection and validation following repairs or adjustments and before being operated.
- Escalate defects requiring specialized mechanical expertise or significant repair to an appropriate maintenance facility.
- Arrange or requisition operational materials, tools and supplies required to support transportation and equipment operations.

Staff Supervision and Operational Management

- Supervise and coordinate drivers, outbound, FAC and other operational employees assigned to the shift.
- Assign employees according to freight volumes, workload, service requirements, staffing levels and operational priorities.
- Establish work priorities and provide employees with clear operational direction throughout the shift.
- Monitor employee productivity, performance and adherence to established operating procedures.
- Train, coach and provide guidance to employees concerning job duties, transportation procedures, equipment operation, safety requirements and company policies.
- Respond to employee and operational issues arising during the shift and take appropriate corrective or escalation action.
- Participate in employee performance evaluations and provide recommendations regarding staffing, training, performance management, discipline and other personnel matters.
- Coordinate activities across linehaul, dock, FAC, shunt, equipment and pickup and delivery operations to ensure employees and resources are deployed effectively.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance

- Maintain a strong focus on employee, transportation and operational safety across all areas of responsibility.
- Ensure employees comply with XPO safety procedures, policies and operating standards.
- Monitor driver compliance with Hours of Service requirements, vehicle inspection requirements and applicable motor-transport safety standards.
- Support compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods requirements, National Safety Code requirements and applicable cross-border transportation requirements.
- Identify unsafe equipment, workplace conditions or work practices and take appropriate action.
- Ensure equipment identified as unsafe or requiring repair is appropriately removed from service.
- Promote a safety-first operating environment while maintaining required service, productivity and operational performance.
- Conduct required operational and safety checks, including mandatory gate checks.

KPI, Service and Operational Performance

- Monitor and manage operational KPIs relating to service performance, productivity, staffing, freight movement, equipment utilization, dock performance and on-time departures.
- Identify performance gaps and implement appropriate corrective action.
- Monitor linehaul and dock execution to identify potential missed service commitments and take action to mitigate service failures.
- Balance safety, service, productivity, staffing and cost considerations when making operational decisions.




- Maintain compliance with applicable XPO mandatory dock processes and operational programs, including ZDM requirements, Model Compliance requirements, dock reweigh goals and cube-scanner objectives.
- Conduct mandatory gate checks and ensure required operational controls are completed.
- Maintain accurate operational information in applicable XPO transportation, shipment and equipment-management systems.
- Prepare and maintain reports and operational records relating to freight movements, staffing, equipment, service performance, productivity and safety.
- Communicate significant operational issues, service risks and performance results to the Freight Operations Manager and other appropriate leadership.

Supervisory Responsibility The Supervisor, Freight Operations – Night FAC / Linehaul Operations exercises day-to-day supervisory authority over operational employees assigned to the shift. The position is responsible for:

- Directly supervising approximately 8–10 operational employees, with staffing levels varying according to freight volumes and operational requirements.
- Directing and coordinating drivers responsible for linehaul, pickup and delivery and other transportation movements.
- Directing outbound, FAC and dock employees responsible for the handling and movement of freight.
- Assigning employees and establishing work priorities across multiple areas of the operation.
- Monitoring employee performance, productivity, safety and compliance with operating procedures.
- Providing training, coaching, guidance and operational direction.
- Resolving employee and operational issues arising during the shift.
- Providing recommendations concerning staffing, training, performance management, discipline and other personnel decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in Less-than-Truckload freight operations, motor transportation, linehaul operations or a closely related transportation environment.
- Demonstrated experience supervising or coordinating truck drivers and transportation activities in a time-sensitive operating setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of LTL and linehaul operations, including dispatch, routing, trailer movements, freight capacity, equipment utilization and transportation scheduling.
- Experience coordinating transportation activities involving multiple terminals, service centres, geographic markets or operating locations.
- Experience with Canada–United States cross-border freight transportation, including customs requirements and bonded freight.
- Working knowledge of driver Hours of Service, vehicle inspection requirements and motor-transport safety requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to independently make real-time operational decisions and resolve problems involving drivers, staffing, freight, equipment, routing, capacity and scheduled service.
- Experience identifying or coordinating trailer and transportation-equipment maintenance and repair requirements.
- Ability to plan and coordinate multiple operational activities simultaneously in a time-sensitive transportation setting.
- Ability and availability to regularly work an overnight schedule commencing at 7:30 p.m., including Friday-to-Saturday overnight operations and other weekends and statutory holidays where required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required XPO certification to operate a forklift and other applicable material-handling equipment.
- Strong organizational, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Post-secondary education in transportation, logistics, supply chain management or a related field.
- Experience working in an LTL hub, Freight Assembly Center, cross-dock or high-volume linehaul environment.
- Experience coordinating freight and trailer movements across a multi-terminal transportation network.
- Experience planning inbound and outbound dock operations in conjunction with linehaul transportation requirements.
- Experience with U.S. FDA requirements affecting cross-border freight.
- Experience managing customs inspections, bonded freight or cross-border transportation exceptions.
- Experience overseeing transportation activities serving geographic markets without a local terminal or service centre.
- Experience coordinating fleet or trailer maintenance across multiple locations.
- Forklift or material-handling equipment operating experience.
- Experience performing minor trailer repairs or operational equipment adjustments.
- Previous formal supervisory or team-leadership experience in motor transportation operations.

Working Conditions Work is performed primarily at XPO's Mississauga freight service centre and Freight Assembly Center in a fast-paced LTL transportation environment.

The position is an overnight operational role with a regular 7:30 p.m. start time and includes Friday evening-to-Saturday morning linehaul operations as scheduled. The Supervisor must remain actively engaged in transportation operations throughout the shift and independently respond to time-sensitive issues involving drivers, employees, freight, trailers, equipment, dock operations, linehaul schedules and cross-border movements.

Approximately 40 hours are regularly scheduled each week. Additional hours may occasionally be required where necessary to resolve significant operational issues or ensure an effective transition to the subsequent operating shift.

The position involves regular interaction with drivers, dock employees, commercial transportation equipment, maintenance resources, other XPO service centres and customs authorities. Work may be performed in indoor and outdoor areas that are not climate controlled and around moving commercial vehicles, forklifts, trailers and freight.

Physical and Equipment Requirements

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods within a freight service centre, loading dock and transportation yard.
- Ability to safely work around commercial motor vehicles, trailers, forklifts and moving freight.
- Ability to inspect trailers and transportation equipment.
- Ability to bend, reach, push and pull as required during equipment inspections or minor authorized trailer repairs and adjustments.
- Ability to use appropriate hand tools when performing minor authorized equipment repairs.
- Ability to lift freight or equipment items weighing up to approximately 50 lbs.
- Ability to operate a forklift or other authorized material-handling equipment when operationally required, following successful completion and maintenance of required XPO certification.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and environments that may not be climate controlled.
