About PICS and Optima LivingProgressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) Society is a registered community-based non-profit, multi-service organization that has served the community since 1987. PICS Society assists youth, seniors, women, and the local community members by providing a comprehensive network of services and programs in the Lower Mainland and operates a Seniors Housing facility that includes assisted living, independent living, adult daycare program.PICS Society is currently developing the next level of care with Guru Nanak Diversity Village (GNDV), a culturally sensitive "complex care" or "long-term care" Care Community that will meet the needs of seniors who require the support of full care services.Position SummaryReporting to the General Manager, the Recreation Manager leads the planning and delivery of recreation programs that support resident wellness, engagement, and quality of life. This role develops diverse programming based on resident interests and functional needs and fosters a supportive and engaging environment that promotes social interaction, physical activity, and mental stimulation. All duties and responsibilities are carried out in alignment with Optima Living's mission, vision, and values, promoting person-centered care by respecting the uniqueness, dignity, and self-determination of residents to promote maximum personal and functional independence. These duties are performed within the framework of established organizational policies and procedures, industry best practices, while adhering to applicable regulations and standards.ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Team OversightProvides leadership, support, guidance and mentorship to the recreation teamProvides oversight and direction to the recreation team through coordination of work routines to meet the daily needs of residentsConducts and attends team meetings; serves on committees asapplicableEnsures team members comply with all relevant Occupational Health and Safety regulations.Creates a safe, pleasant, creative and inclusive recreational environmentCore DeliverablesDevelops and evaluates diverse programs within the seven dimensions of wellness (i.E., social, physical, intellectual, emotional, vocational, environmental and spiritual needs)Oversees the implementation of recreation programming to meet the community needsMaintains resident profiles, assessments as applicable, and attendance records in Welbi platformUtilizes Welbi insight reports to inform and modify programming to reflect resident interests.Coordinates all aspects of the volunteer programDevelops and maintains communication tools such as newsletters, posters, notices and calendarsParticipates in resident Care Conferences as part of the interdisciplinary teamCoordinates and/or assists with Resident and/or Family Council as requestedUtilizes external community resources to assist in providing recreation opportunities where appropriate.Plans evening and weekend programs and activities as required.Operates company vehicle safely and in compliance with traffic laws, organizational policies,
and licensing requirements inclusive of pre/post vehicle inspections if applicableOptima Community EngagementEnsures communication with residents, families and team members is managed effectively, with empathy and responsivenessCollaborates with other team leads within the community to ensure that goals and planned changes are monitored and reviewedCollaborates with the Sales/Marketing team to organize events that support the marketing plan and promote community activitiesEnsures a high level of resident engagementSolicits regular resident and family feedback from surveys and other meansBudget and FinancialParticipates in the operational, budgetary, and capital planning processesForecasts budget requirements as well as monitors and approves expenditures.Quality AssurancePerforms and evaluates organizational audits and key performance indicators and shares the results for quality improvementsInvestigates and documents incidents and complaints, ensuring prompt corrective actionsManages risks, communicates problems and finds solutions for quality improvements and risk mitigationsReviews external quality and inspection reports in collaboration with the General ManagerMaintains accurate records by ensuring necessary documentation and reporting systems are in place.Operational and Administrative SystemsLiaises with agencies and senior-focused organizations to coordinate services and organize special events and outingsDetermines and maintains appropriate staffing levels (as per CBA if applicable) and interviews and hires qualified personnel in consultation with the General ManagerOversees the onboarding and orientation of the teamManages performance evaluations and improvement strategiesEnsures team members participation in the annual continuing education programResolves conflicts and takes appropriate corrective action as neededSupports the Community Relations Coordinator in providing tours of the community as neededGeneralPromptly reports unsafe conditions, incidents, or concerns to supervisor, General Manager or Health & Safety CommitteeIdentifies maintenance issues and reports them following established maintenance proceduresResponds promptly during emergency codes in alignment with organizational standards and protocolsContributes to quality improvement initiatives by sharing ideas and providing feedbackEnsures adherence to infection control policies and procedures through regular audits, observations,
and investigationsMaintains strict confidentiality of resident medical and personal information in accordance with privacy legislationCompletes orientation upon hire and annual mandatory education as assignedSupports new team members through their orientation processRespects and upholds the Resident Bill of Rights and the Assisted Living Rights of ResidentsPerforms other duties as required to support operational needsQualifications & ExperienceGraduate from a recognized Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation & Leisure Studies, Gerontology, Health Sciences programMinimum of one (1) year leadership experience in a residential care or mental health environment is requiredMaintains a valid Class 4 driver's license or be willing to obtainMaintains an active CPR and First Aid certificationMaintains an active Food Safe certificateMaintains an active Serving It Right certificationAquatic Fitness Instructor certification as applicableKnowledge of Labour and Employment Standards, including union and collective agreements, is an assetDemonstrates understanding and appreciation of residents' backgrounds and needs through a creative and engaging approachEnergetic and supportive leader who drives team engagement and morale while consistently leading by exampleCommunicates in an approachable and respectful manner with the temperament to deal tactfully and cooperatively in all interactionsStrong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage priorities effectivelyStrong written communication skills with the ability to present professional documents with clarityExperienced in crisis interventionAbility to manage and resolve difficult and challenging situations effectively and respectfullyPhysical and mental ability to carry out the duties of the position including adherence to provincial health legislationsAbility to operate all equipment safely following approved practices and protocolsComputer literacy skills requiredFlexibility to work a variety of shifts including weekends and evenings.Other duties as assigned to support operational requirementsStrong knowledge and understanding of the customs and sensitivities of different culturesFluency in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu will be an assetMust provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check)PICS Society has appointed Optima Living as the official managing partner for the GNDV facility.
