The role balances day‑to‑day accounting work with direct management of a small team and practical improvements to systems and processes. The Manager ensures strong execution, consistency, and reliability across the property accounting function while reducing the operational workload of the Director.ResponsibilitiesProperty Accounting and ReportingOwn month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end accounting and reporting for the assigned portfolioPrepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments related to property operations, capital activity, and renovationsComplete and review bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations, and month‑end close activitiesEnsure financial statements are accurate, complete, and delivered on timePrepare variance analysis and simple performance summaries for property operations and managementMaintain supporting schedules including property taxes, utilities, and other recurring itemsPeople Leadership and Daily OversightLead, engage, and support a small team of property accountants, setting explicit expectations and modeling strong accountabilityBuild a high‑performing team culture focused on accuracy, ownership, and follow‑throughReview work for quality and completeness, providing timely coaching and constructive feedbackSet priorities, manage workloads, and ensure deadlines are consistently met without sacrificing qualityTrain, onboard,
and develop team members to build capability and consistency in executionAddress performance issues directly and fairly, reinforcing standards and supporting improvementCreate a collaborative, engaged, and respectful team environment where issues are surfaced early and solved quicklyProcesses, Systems, and ImprovementsEnsure established accounting processes are followed consistently across the portfolioIdentify gaps, errors, or inefficiencies in day‑to‑day processes and implement practical improvementsSupport basic budgeting and forecasting activities by coordinating inputs and validating numbersAssist with audits by preparing schedules, responding to questions, and ensuring documentation is completeUse Yardi and related tools effectively and help the team adopt more efficient ways of workingTake on detailed work that would otherwise sit with the Director, freeing them to focus on higher‑level prioritiesOperations SupportWork closely with property management teams to answer questions, explain results, and resolve issuesSupport tracking and reporting of work order, maintenance, and renovation activity as neededRespond to ad‑hoc requests and issues related to property accountingQualificationsBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related fieldFive or more years of hands‑on accounting experience, preferably in property accounting or real estateProven experience managing and developing an accounting team, including setting expectations, reviewing work, and providing regular feedbackDemonstrated ability to build a reliable, engaged,
and high‑performing team through clear direction, coaching, and accountabilityStrong attention to detail with a willingness to roll up sleeves and work directly in the numbers alongside the teamPractical experience identifying gaps, improving processes, and strengthening day‑to‑day executionAbility to prioritize work, manage multiple deadlines, and maintain focus in a fast‑paced environmentClear, straightforward communication style with the ability to explain accounting information to non‑finance partnersBilingualism in English and French is preferredExperience with Yardi is a strong assetCPA designation is an asset but not requiredCompensationThe approximate salary range for this role is $80,000–$100,000 per year. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, educational attainment, professional designations, internal equity, and other factors.Work LocationThe role is based in our Canadian offices and requires being onsite five days a week.
