Our client, a well-established full-service law firm serving clients across Southern Ontario, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Law Clerk to support their busy Wills & Estates practice on a contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a clerk who enjoys owning the full estate administration process, from opening a file through to final distribution, and who takes pride in accurate, well-organized work.This is a hands-on role for someone who can manage estate files independently and keep multiple matters moving smoothly. It is well suited to a recent law clerk graduate, a candidate coming off a recent contract, or an internationally trained lawyer or licensing candidate looking to build hands-on estates experience in a supportive, cooperative environment.Duties include but are not limited to:Collect and organize the information required to administer an estate, and maintain estate checklistsPrepare estate administration documents, including the Application for a Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee, the Certificate of Appointment, and the supporting affidavitPrepare renunciations, notarials, and statements of original assetsPrepare and file Estate Information ReturnsMaintain and update the court application listAccounts, Distributions & Financial DocumentsDraft estate accounts, including consultation and full accountsCreate accounts based on timesheets, and create, update,
and maintain timesheetsReview bank statements and prepare reconciliations of fundsCalculate interim and final distribution amountsPrepare authorizations and directions, irrevocable directions, releases (including full and final releases), and acknowledgementsCorrespondence & CoordinationManage day-to-day email and book estate appointmentsDraft correspondence to clients, beneficiaries, the Ministry of Finance, courthouses, the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee, other law firms, financial institutions, and related partiesAbout YouThe successful candidate will have the following:Law Clerk diploma (ILCO certification an asset) or equivalent practical experienceSolid, recent experience as a law clerk in wills and estates, including probate and estate administrationWorking knowledge of Ontario estates court procedures, forms, and filing requirementsStrong drafting, organizational, and file-management skills, with excellent attention to detailProficiency with legal software and standard office applications; ability to learn firm-specific systems quicklyAble to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and start on short noticeProfessional, personable communication style with clients and colleaguesAbout the JobType: Contract, with potential for extensionPay Rate: $30.00 to $32.00 an hourSchedule: Full time, 5 days on-siteLocation: Southern Ontario (Greater Toronto and surrounding area)Start: As soon as possiblePlease note that all candidates must be permitted to work in Canada to be considered for this opportunity.
