THE OPPORTUNITY The Payroll & HR Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the Payroll and Human Resources departments. This role helps maintain accurate employee records, completes recurring payroll and HR reviews, prepares reports and correspondence, and follows up with managers to support timely completion of required actions.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES Assist with various administrative payroll tasks:

Process monthly union remittances

Prepare employee certification and premium reports for managers to review quarterly.

Distribute employee vacation balance reminders to managers quarterly.

Review employee geolocation setups in HRIS quarterly.

Track employee certificate and premium expiry dates and maintain details in HRIS.

Track employee commission guarantee expiry dates and maintain details in HRIS.

Notify the IT department of any changes in technician rates and audit the rates quarterly.

Assist with various administrative HR tasks:

Review employee absenteeism after each pay period and notify HR of extended absences.

Track completion of performance reviews for new hires.



Send reminders to managers and file completed reviews.

Assist with maintaining accurate employee data in HRIS.

Prepare employee roster reports upon request.

Other Duties

Assist with various projects for the Payroll and HR Departments

Other duties as assigned

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

Diploma or post-secondary degree in business or related field preferred

Canadian Payroll Association certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) would be an asset

Two to four years related experience and strong working knowledge of Payroll, especially hourly and union and non-union payroll for Canada

General knowledge of best practices for payroll and working knowledge of Canadian labour standards

Proficiency with ADP payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Basic accounting knowledge required

Strong organizational skills

Detail-oriented with accurate data entry skills

Strong interpersonal skills, team player, with a excellent customer service approach

Ability to make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy, to enter data with speed and accuracy, to pay attention to detail, and to take responsibility for completion and follow through of all tasks.

Functions well with large volume and fast-paced work environment

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

SALARY RANGE The salary range for this role is $49,000- $52,000, based on experience.
