Nexans Fergus classifies all direct manufacturing personnel that run production machines as 'Machine Operators'. Machine Operators are responsible for all aspects of running production equipment for the purposes of manufacturing electrical cables. They are responsible for the following:Reading design recipes and cable drawingsSelection of appropriate tooling, and raw materials per the designCleaning of equipmentSet-up of tooling and materials in preparation for a production runQuality checks of in-process and finished goods parts. Checks include visual checks for surface texture, proper winding of cables on a spool, checking for physical defects on cables and measurements that include using the following tools:Diameter tapesMicrometersMicroscopes with dial micrometersPrecision scalesSpecific Gravity scalesShadow GraphsTensile testingSupervision of equipment while running product,



including:Decision making regarding when product meets the quality requirements per the design after a startupFlagging non-conforming product when requiredFeeding raw materials into the machine(s)Taking away finished goods from the machine(s)Use of walk-behind pallet jacks, standup reach trucks or forklifts as requiredUse of overhead cranesLabelling of in-process and finished goods, including verifying that the order number, part number, description and quantity are correctAutonomous maintenance tasks including:Filter changesGreasingChecking bearings, sheaves and rollersWhat drives usAt Nexans, purpose, excellence and people drive us.
