Job Title: Civil Skilled Laborer

Join an industrial construction team in the North Vancouver area as a Civil Skilled Laborer, supporting a variety of civil works including pipe installation, grading, precast placement, and general site labor. You will work closely with equipment operators and carpenters to help deliver safe, high-quality projects in a busy industrial environment.

Responsibilities

- Perform continuous shoveling and general civil labor tasks throughout the workday.
- Install pipe and assist with pipelaying activities on industrial construction sites.
- Carry out grading work to prepare and maintain site surfaces according to project specifications.
- Place precast barrels and other precast components safely and accurately.
- Work closely with excavator operators to provide spotting support and ensure safe machine operation around personnel and utilities.
- Assist with backfilling and compacting operations using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Build basic forms for sidewalks, curbs, and other concrete structures as required.
- Support carpenters with formwork and other tasks when needed.
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs repeatedly during the shift.
- Use hand tools and basic construction equipment safely and effectively.
- Follow all safety procedures and site rules to maintain a safe work environment.
- Communicate clearly with the foreman, equipment operators, and crew members to coordinate daily tasks.
- Attend and participate in site orientation and ongoing safety briefings.

Essential Skills

- 3–5 years of experience in civil construction, preferably on industrial or infrastructure projects.
- Comfort working in a physically demanding role, including shoveling for extended periods throughout the day.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Experience performing general labor duties in construction environments.
- Knowledge of basic civil construction practices such as grading, backfilling, and compacting.
- Proficiency using hand tools commonly used in construction.
- Strong safety awareness and commitment to following safety protocols.




- Clear and reliable communication skills to work effectively with the foreman, equipment operators, and other crew members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Previous pipelayer or pipelaying experience.
- Experience operating or working around skid steer equipment.
- Experience working in or around confined spaces.
- Access to a personal vehicle for commuting to various industrial sites.
- Ability to reach job sites that are transit accessible.
- Experience assisting carpenters and building forms for sidewalks and curbs.

Work Environment

This role is based on industrial construction sites in the North Vancouver area, working under the guidance of a foreman and participating in formal site orientations. The environment is outdoors and physically demanding, involving continuous shoveling, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working around heavy equipment such as excavators and skid steers. You will use hand tools and basic construction equipment daily and may work in or around confined spaces. Sites are accessible by transit, and having your own car can provide additional flexibility for commuting. Work is performed in standard construction attire appropriate for industrial job sites, with a strong emphasis on safety procedures and crew communication.

This is a Contract position based out of Maple Ridge, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.





Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
