Course Title: Music Education in Secondary School 2 (EDUC 4963 WI01)

Stipend Amount: The current Per Course stipend for this appointment is specified in Appendices H and I of the 17th Collective Agreement .

Course Description: This advanced course provides an overview of learning theories pertinent to music education. Students will learn about pedagogical strategies for the teaching of music literacy that will lead to a teaching model to empower musicianship and engagement in music. Students will become familiar with Nova Scotia music curricula content and outcomes. Prerequisite(s): EDUC 4663.

Qualifications : M.Ed. or higher qualification in a relevant area. A record of academic expertise in relevant and contemporary theories related to strategies in teaching music education for secondary school. Current and relevant professional experience with contemporary approaches to teaching music education for secondary school is required.



Recent experience as a school-based educator is preferred. Recent experience designing, facilitating, and assessing a teacher education course at a university level is preferred. Successful recent experience working independently and as part of a team is essential. The B.Ed. is a provincially accredited program. Applicants will therefore be expected to teach and collaborate within the contexts of accreditation requirements.
Recent experience teaching EDUC 4653 will be considered an asset.
