OverviewThe Director of Development leads the development and execution of a comprehensive donor engagement strategy that guides constituents through the donor lifecycle, including acquisition, segmented solicitation (including direct marketing), and recognition and stewardship. The Director oversees the donor experience across cross-channel communications, recognition programs, and impact reporting to deepen donor relationships and ensure consistent, meaningful engagement with the Jewish Federation of BC. The Director will lead and execute the Federation’s annual fundraising campaign, focusing on donor cultivation, stewardship, and engagement to drive philanthropic growth. This role builds relationships with donors, volunteers, and community leaders, translating the Federation’s vision into compelling giving opportunities and fostering a culture of generosity. This role provides an opportunity to shape the philanthropic landscape of the Jewish community in BC, driving initiatives that support programs, services, and community growth.Key ResponsibilitiesCampaign Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement the annual fundraising campaign strategy in alignment with Federation priorities and goals.Campaign metrics: Set, establish and monitor campaign performance metrics, including dollar targets, donor acquisition, retention, and upgrade goals.Revenue opportunities: Identify new revenue opportunities and innovative approaches to expand donor engagement.Data-driven targeting: Leverage data and audience segmentation models to target giving opportunities effectively.Major events: Coordinate directly with lead staff for all major signature events and activities.Donor Cultivation & Stewardship: Grow the annual campaign to achieve ambitious dollar targets while expanding the donor base.Donor pipeline: Own and manage a robust pipeline of donor leads with metrics for outreach, conversion and retention.Relationship building: Build and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundation fund opportunities.High-net-worth donors: Cultivate high-net-worth donors capable of increasing giving capacity and prospect for new foundation fund holders.Major donor strategy: Oversee major donor solicitation, including strategy for personal engagement and tailored asks.Stewardship: Ensure consistent and meaningful donor stewardship to strengthen long-term engagement.Donor recognition: Coordinate donor recognition programs and events, acknowledging contributions appropriately.Team Leadership & Collaboration: Manage, supervise and mentor campaign staff, volunteers, and leaders; provide strategicguidance and professional development.Collaboration: Foster collaboration with volunteer leaders, committee members, and board members to support campaign initiatives.Volunteer plans: Create and implement plans to keep campaign volunteers motivated and prepared to implement donor solicitations.Coaching: Provide coaching and guidance to ensure consistent messaging and effective donor engagement.Team motivation:



Inspire the team to achieve goals and support individual growth.Cross-team alignment: Collaborate with marketing, events and program teams to align fundraising with The Federation’s priorities and create compelling donor-centric communications and events.Cross-functional relationships: Build strong working relationships across the organization to support a culture of philanthropy and donor-centric thinking.Cross-organization collaboration: Work with FRD and the Jewish Community Foundation to create a seamless donor experience and coordinate with the Executive Director, Chief Development Officer, finance and database teams for gift processing and acknowledgment.Community Engagement & Giving: Oversee a comprehensive, multi-channel giving strategy that engages and retains donors across all segments, from first-time donors to major annual supporters.Marketing collaboration: Work with Marketing & Communications to develop segmented, multi-channel direct marketing campaigns (email, mail, digital, phone, social) tailored to donor motivations and giving behavior.Donor journeys: Develop and manage segmentation strategies, donor journeys, and customized appeals to increase participation, average gift size, and retention.Benchmarks: Establish clear benchmarks and KPIs to track donor acquisition, conversion, retention, and upgrade success.Portfolio cultivation: Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors and prospects.Community relations: Strengthen relationships with regional and local Jewish communities to support Federation priorities.Outreach support: Support outreach initiatives that increase campaign visibility and community participation.Engagement model: Build on audience segmentation solicitation model for engagement initiatives and develop regional, self-sustaining programs aligned with fundraising goals.Data & Performance Management: Lead and manage the transition to Microsoft Dynamics, including data migration, staff training, and ongoing system optimization for tracking donor engagement and campaign performance.Reporting: Provide regular campaign updates and performance reports to senior leadership and the board; analyze donor trends and market data to refine strategy.Compliance: Ensure adherence to organizational policies and donor restrictions, including tracking of restricted funding.Operational improvements: Lead teams to implement process improvements and use technology to drive productive operations.KPIs: Establish and monitor KPIs and campaign metrics to evaluate effectiveness and inform future strategies, including revenue projections, realized gifts, and expectancies.Data governance:
