As a Special Education Assistant, you'll help nurture each child's learning journey while honoring Squamish culture, language, and ways of knowing - planting seeds for lifelong growth and cultural pride.What You'll DoImplement individualized education plans (IEPs) using culturally-responsive strategiesProvide 1:1 and small group support for children with diverse learning needsAdapt classroom materials to make Squamish language/culture curriculum accessibleSupport behavior management and social skill development through trauma-informed approachesAssist with specialized equipment, speech therapy exercises, and daily routinesSupervise students during class, playground, and bus transitionsDocument student progress and communicate with teachers/parentsParticipate in school team meetings and professional developmentModel wenáxws (respect) while teaching life skills and community rolesWhat We're Looking ForSpecial Education Assistant certificate or equivalent experienceTraining in ASD support, behavior intervention, or trauma-informed practicesExperience working with elementary-aged children in educational settingsUnderstanding of Indigenous learning styles and cultural safety principlesAbility to lift/move children (up to 50 lbs) and assist with physical needsWillingness to learn basic Squamish language terms for classroom use*Cultural humility and respect for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh values, sovereignty,
