Job Description Senior UX Designer Location: Toronto, ON 87 Sir William Hearst Ave.
Work Arrangement: Onsite Contract: October 5, 2026 March 31, 2027 Extension: Up to 134 days, with one possible extension term Openings: 1 Security Clearance: No clearance required Client: Labour and Transportation Cluster, Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement Position Overview We are seeking a Senior UX Designer to support the design and delivery of user-centred digital products and services.
The successful candidate will work closely with Product Owners, business stakeholders, developers, and other project team members throughout the Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live phases of the product lifecycle.
The Senior UX Designer will be responsible for conducting user research, developing and validating design concepts, creating prototypes, facilitating usability testing, supporting Agile/Scrum delivery, and continuously improving products based on user feedback, analytics, and accessibility requirements.
Key Responsibilities Discovery Facilitate project kick-off activities and establish a clear understanding of the problem space, business objectives, user needs, and stakeholder requirements.
Develop and facilitate UX discovery deliverables including: Business Model Canvas 5 Whys User Personas Stakeholder Mapping Strategy Maps Short- and long-term goals Fears and challenges Problem Statements Facilitate user research activities, including: User Interview Topic Maps User Interview Scripts User Interview Synthesis User Research Findings Reports Facilitate stakeholder showcases/inception activities to communicate findings and align business and technical teams.
Develop User Storyboards and Technical Service Blueprints.
Help define business KPIs and success measures.
Alpha Support design experimentation and hypothesis validation.
Facilitate or participate in Google Ventures Five-Day Design Sprints or similar design sprint methodologies where required.
Develop multiple clickable prototypes to explore potential solutions.
Conduct usability testing with users and document research findings.
Analyze feedback and iteratively improve prototypes and design solutions.
Identify existing business processes, policies, and practices that may need to change to support current products or services.
Help define the product vision and roadmap for the Beta phase.
Develop prioritized feature lists and contribute to business proposals supporting future delivery.
Define user-focused solutions and associated KPIs.
Beta Work within an Agile/Scrum delivery environment alongside Product Owners, developers,
and other project team members.
Participate in: Daily stand-ups Sprint planning Backlog grooming/refinement Reporting Acceptance activities Retrospectives Create and validate user stories and user flows.
Participate in prioritization and feature planning.
Facilitate sketching workshops to visually represent ideas, workflows, and user journeys.
Create and enhance UX designs based on user and stakeholder feedback.
Conduct user interviews to validate designs and synthesize findings.
Iterate designs based on research and usability testing.
Obtain Product Owner feedback and sign-off and prepare stories for backlog planning.
Conduct accessibility compliance testing within iterations.
Conduct regular usability testing of MVP solutions.
Live / Continuous Improvement Continue conducting user research and usability testing after product launch.
Develop User Interview Topic Maps, Interview Scripts, Interview Synthesis, and User Research Findings Reports.
Conduct ongoing accessibility compliance testing as enhancements are released.
Monitor and analyze usage analytics and user behaviour patterns.
Track KPIs and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Iterate on live products based on research, analytics, user feedback, and changing business needs.
Requirements Mandatory Qualifications & Skills Candidates must demonstrate the following: Extensive experience applying UX design best practices to design digital solutions.
Deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design principles.
Demonstrated ability to iterate designs and solutions efficiently and intelligently based on research, feedback, and testing. 3+ years of relevant experience participating in complex projects/products of different sizes.
Experience working within user-centred design processes and Agile/Scrum methodologies .
Experience ensuring UX activities align with project plans, design best practices, and delivery objectives.
Experience facilitating User Research and Usability Testing activities.
Experience producing UX research deliverables such as:
User Interview Topic Maps User Interview Scripts User Interview Synthesis User Research Findings Reports Strong experience collaborating with Product Owners, developers, business teams, and other stakeholders .
Demonstrated communication and mediation skills to keep projects progressing according to schedule.
Experience supporting strategies and actions to overcome resistance to change and capitalize on forces supporting change throughout Discovery, Alpha, Beta, Live, or comparable delivery methodologies.
Demonstrated experience delivering products as part of a balanced Agile team consisting of Product Owners, UX Designers, Developers, and other stakeholders .
Expertise with UX/design tools such as: Just
InMind InVision Sketch Adobe Creative Cloud Axure Figma Zeplin HTML5, CSS3, and Java
Script experience is an asset, including exposure to technologies such as React, Angular, or NodeJS .
Education Degree or diploma in Graphic Design or a related discipline. A degree or certification in Usability, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or Technical Writing is considered an asset.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to clearly communicate UX processes, design concepts, recommendations, and solutions to technical and business audiences.
Strong presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
Robust interpersonal, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
Ability to work closely with distributed teams and stakeholders to regularly present design solutions and obtain feedback/approval.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Ability to effectively manage competing priorities while maintaining alignment with project and product objectives.
