The Opportunity:
The Community Art Specialist is responsible for developing and coordinating community arts initiatives that foster creativity and strengthen relationships with artists and local arts organizations that fall outside the scope of the Public Art Policy. This role serves as a key liaison between the City and arts-related projects, including the rotational art program and community arts hub.
Responsibilities include
- Develop and enhance the community arts portfolio through programs, frameworks, and initiatives that support local artists, creative expression, and placemaking activities.
- Coordinate the rotational art program, including artist calls, exhibition planning, scheduling,
and installation activities.
- Support the planning, coordination, and day-to-day operation of the community arts hub in collaboration with community partners and stakeholders.
- Build and maintain relationships with artists, arts organizations, and community groups to advance arts and cultural initiatives.
- Provide operational and administrative support for public art projects, including temporary and permanent installations, as required.
You Bring:
- Undergraduate degree in fine arts, art history, arts management, cultural studies, museum studies, or another related degree required.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in arts and culture administration.
- Knowledge and experience in exhibition curation and program development in a museum, art gallery, or other public/community art settings.
- Proven experience working with the creative community, including artists, artist collectives, and/or non-profit arts organizations.
- Excellent relationship-building and management skills.
- Basic knowledge of project management.
- Ability to think critically and balance strategic and operational needs.
- Ability to build strong and team-oriented relationships internally and externally.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently on several projects simultaneously.
- Ability to identify opportunities, take initiative, and provide subject matter expertise.

This is a six-month term position that is expected to work 18.75 hours per week. Extension of the term is not guaranteed and will depend on operational needs.
