Job Title: Art Gallery Attendant

Location: Art Gallery of Sudbury, 251 John St. Sudbury ON

$17.95 / hr.

Shifts are every Saturday from 10h30 to 5h00

Language: Oral and written level- English: Proficiency Level B

Under the direct supervision and working closely with the Visitor Services and Operations Coordinator, the Gallery Attendant is responsible for welcoming visitors and engaging them through dialogue associated with current exhibitions and within the gift shop. The position also requires some administrative work such as maintaining accurate inventory of items within the Gift Shop and processing sales. Other tasks include surveillance, general light maintenance, communications, administration and exhibition/installation support.

This is a Part time position with limited hours (average of 6 hours per week). Hours are primarily Saturdays with opportunities for further hours as needed.

Job duties include:

- Be able to engage visitors in relation to current exhibitions and within the gift shop
- Provide Visitor services and verbal communication in both French and English to effectively represent the gallery in greeting customers and responding to enquiries.
- Have Proficiency in email, Microsoft office suite and databases for use with statistical information such as attendance.
- Provide support in maintaining accurate inventory of items within the Gift Shop and making such items available for purchase online
- Maintain and change displays within gift shop to maintain a visually appealing sales floor
- Provide registration support for summer programs and related education classes.
- Provide coordination for AGS/GAS opening and closing procedures.
- Conduct regular walk-throughs of gallery and ensure restrooms, and public spaces are clean and well-

stocked.

- Establish and maintain a safe environment for the artwork and everyone present at the gallery




- Provide security around the exhibitions and other public areas.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Post-secondary diploma

Minimum Experience: Minimum 12-month experience within Retail and/or Customer Service

Special Skills:

- Interest and/or experience in visual arts
- Verbally bilingual in both English and French is required
- Good written communication skills in both English and French;
- Cash register experience;
- Ability to take initiative and demonstrate a flexible approach in responding to needs as they arise;
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task with regular interruptions;
- A team player and “people person” with the ability to work independently as required;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and internet applications such as web-browsers and email;
- Familiarity with PC computer platforms;
- Physically fit to stand for long durations, to carry up to 40lbs and climb ladders
- Smart Serve Certification
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check To be eligible, candidates:

· must be legally entitled to work in Canada, be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada;

· Bilingual – French and English

· must have a recent police check and first aid certification.
