Role Description The Quality Control Technician role is a full-time, on-site position based in Schomberg, ON. This role is responsible for monitoring and testing cheese products and ingredients to ensure they meet company quality standards, regulatory requirements, and food safety guidelines. Day-to-day tasks include performing routine laboratory tests, calibrating and operating laboratory equipment, documenting test results, and reporting non-conformities to the Food Safety & Quality team. The Quality Control Technician collaborates with production staff to address quality issues, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and helps maintain a clean and safe work setting.
The role also involves participating in audits, adhering to standard operating procedures, and assisting with the implementation of quality control protocols.
Duties Ensure compliance with GMPs, HACCP, CFIA and SQF regulations
Perform quality testing (moisture, pH, fat (babcock method), microbiological sampling)
Inspect equipment pre‑and post‑operation and perform ATP swabbing to ensure sanitation standards are adhere to.
Calibrate lab and production equipment
Identify, reject, and document non‑conforming products
Communicate quality issues and deviations to production and management
Prepare samples and paperwork for third‑party lab testing
Maintain lab supply inventory
Assist with SOPs and quality programs
Work independently and prioritize tasks during the day or afternoon shifts
Requirements Post‑secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field
2–5 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment
Knowledge of HACCP and CFIA standards
Strong attention to detail and organization skills
Comfortable working independently
Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Effective communication skills for documenting findings and collaborating with team members
Candidates must have a reliable means of transportation to arrive at work on time for all scheduled shifts.
