West Coast Gardens is a destination garden centre in South Surrey offering plants, garden supplies, home décor, workshops, events and seasonal experiences.
We are looking for a hands-on Marketing Lead who can help us grow the West Coast Gardens brand, better understand our customers, increase visits to the store and give customers stronger reasons to return.
Working closely with the Retail Operations &
- Marketing Manager, The Marketing Lead will help turn business priorities, customer insights and creative ideas into focuses marketing campaigns. This role will contribute ideas, help establish priorities and take ownership of carrying agreed strategies through execution.
This is a role for someone who understands both sides of good marketing; how it looks and feels to the customer, and whether it actually works.
You will oversee social media, email marketing, digital advertising, website marketing, loyalty marketing and in-store campaigns. Graphic design and content-production support is available, but you must have strong creative judgement and be able to set direction, maintain standards and recognize great work.
We are not looking for someone to produce a high volume of average work. We want someone who can identify what matters most and execute it exceptionally well.

You will become closely familiar with both our brand and our customer - What catches their attention, what inspires them, what they purchase, how frequently they visit and what could influence their next visit.
What You Will Own
Brand, Social &
- Creative Direction
- Maintain a consistent and recognizable West Coast Gardens brand across social media, email, website, advertising and in-store marketing
- Set Direction and standards for social media content, including messaging, visual style, content mix and posting cadence
- - Develop engaging content ideas that showcase our plants, products, people, events and seasonal experiences
- Work with Existing creative support to turn campaign objectives and ideas into strong customer-facing marketing
- Ensure photography, graphics, copy and campaign materials reflect the quality and personality of West Coast Gardens
- Balance promotional content with useful, inspiring and engaging content that gives customers a reason to follow and interact with the brand
- Review customer-facing marketing for brand consistency, accuracy and overall quality
Campaigns &
- Promotions
- Build and maintain the annual marketing calendar
- Lead seasonal campaigns, product launches, VIP promotions and major events
- Establish the objective, audience, message and measurement plan before major campaigns begin
- Develop campaign concepts and determine how they should come to life across different channels
- Coordinate campaigns across email, digital advertising, social media, the website and the physical store
- Carry priority campaigns from concept through execution and performance review
- Ensure campaigns feel coordinated and intentional rather than like separate pieces of marketing
Customer Growth &
- Retention
- Monitor customer retention and returning-customer activity
- Establish useful seasonal benchmarks using current and historical performance
- Identify meaningful customer groups and opportunities, including new, active, at-risk, inactive, lapsed and reactivated customers
- Use purchase behavior, frequency and customer value to identify marketing opportunities
- Turn customer insights into practical campaigns designed to influence visits, transactions and retention
- Report what changed, why it mattes and what marketing action should happen next
Loyalty &
- Customer Targeting
- - Lead the customer-facing execution and continued development of the West Coast Gardens Loyalty program
- - Integrate loyalty across checkout, email, the website, social media and in-store communication
- - Segment customers using purchase behavior, interests and engagement
- - Develop welcome, retention, member-exclusive and reactivation campaigns
- - Measure response, redemption, transactions, revenue and customer activity
- - Improve targeting so relevant customers receive relevant messages rather than every promotion going to the entire database
Digital &
- In-Store Marketing
- Plan and execute email marketing and customer communications
- Manage the social media strategy and content calendar
- Maintain current, engaging and accurate website and Shopify content
- Support SEO, local search and Google Business Profile performance
- Manage Google Ads and other approved digital advertising
- Coordinate event marketing, printed materials and in-store signage
- Walk the physical store regularly to ensure campaigns have been executed properly
- Ensure customers experience one coordinated brand and campaign across every relevant touchpoint

What We're Looking For
- Three or more years of hands-on marketing experience
- Robust marketing instincts and visual judgment
- Experience developing campaigns across multiple channels
- Strong understanding of social media and what makes content engaging and relevant
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
- Experience using customer, loyalty, CRM, e-commerce or transactional data to guide marketing decisions
- Understanding of retention, segmentation and customer lifecycle marketing
- Working knowledge of email platforms, Shopify, social media, Google Ads and analytics
- Ability to interpret performance without losing sight of brand and customer experience
- Ability to turn customer insights and creative ideas into practical campaigns
- Confidence establishing priorities and communicating tradeoffs
- Ability to personally execute work while coordinating creative or outside support when required
THE REALITY OF THE ROLE This is a hands-on position in a seasonal retail environment. You must be comfortable moving between creative thinking, customer analysis, campaign planning and practical execution.
One day might include reviewing how a campaign performed, planning next month's social content, developing an idea for an upcoming event, building an email and walking the store to make sure signage and displays are ready for launch.
You won't be expected to personally create every piece of content or design every graphic. You will be expected to know what good marketing looks like, provide clear direction and make sure the finished work meets the standard.
