Job Summary:

The Senior Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) Specialist is responsible for leading or supporting the development of privacy impact assessments to evaluate new technologies, information systems, programs, or policies. This role ensures compliance with relevant privacy legislation and policies, identifies and mitigates privacy risks, and addresses client concerns within a public sector context. Responsibilities:

- Lead or support the development of privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for new technologies, systems, programs, or policies.
- Evaluate compliance with provincial, municipal, federal, and private sector privacy legislation and regulations.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate privacy risks associated with business initiatives.
- Collaborate with policy development teams to review and align policies with privacy legislation.
- Create and interpret data flow and business process diagrams related to privacy assessments.
- Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to technical and non-technical audiences, including senior management.
- Manage multiple concurrent privacy assessment requests in a dynamic environment.
- Apply privacy enhancing best practices and standards in assessments.
- Engage external experts when necessary to support privacy impact assessments.
- Develop and maintain risk assessment tools, methodologies, policies, and procedures for personal information management.

Required Skills & Certifications:
- In-depth knowledge of privacy legislation including FIPPA, PHIPA, and PIPEDA.




- Proven experience conducting privacy impact assessments involving personal information and digital/online solutions.
- Strong understanding of privacy risks related to various platforms, including cloud-based and legacy systems.
- Ability to interpret technical and non-technical documentation for privacy impact analysis.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Ontario's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and related municipal and federal privacy laws.
- Experience with privacy protection standards, information security, and encryption technologies.
- Familiarity with OPS Privacy Impact Assessment processes and tools.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Skilled certification in IT security, architecture, or related disciplines.
- Experience providing privacy education and training.
- Knowledge of Ontario government policies, business case development, and project approval processes.
- Experience with digital identity trust frameworks and standards.
- Prior experience working in the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or public sector environment.
- Understanding of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and related standards.
