Main responsibilities

Delivery and transportation

- Safely operate a company one-ton pickup truck and 25-foot gooseneck trailer.
- Deliver metal roofing, siding, trim, coils, accessories, and other building materials to customer locations and active job sites throughout Nova Scotia.
- Safely tow, maneuver, back up, load, secure, transport, and unload large trailers and building materials.
- Operate the trailer-mounted knuckle boom safely to assist with unloading materials where required.
- Complete daily vehicle and trailer inspections and report defects, damage, or maintenance requirements.
- Ensure all loads are properly secured before leaving the shop and before travelling to customer locations.
- Represent Five Star Metals professionally while delivering to customers, contractors, suppliers, and job sites.
- Assist with supplier pickups, material transfers, and other delivery-related tasks as required.

Production and shop operations

- Operate metal roofing and siding production equipment after in office training.
- Manufacture metal roofing panels, siding, trim, flashings, and other fabricated metal products according to order sheets, measurements, and production requirements.
- Operate shop machinery such as roll-forming equipment, slitters, benders, brakes, trim equipment, forklifts, and other production or material-handling equipment.
- Read and follow order sheets, shop drawings, measurements, production instructions, and customer material lists.
- Pick, stage, package, and prepare customer orders for pickup or delivery.
- Load and unload customer, supplier, and company trucks and trailers.
- Receive incoming materials and organize stock in the shop, warehouse, and yard.
- Stock shelves and maintain organized inventory of metal products, accessories, fasteners, underlayment, and related materials.
- Assist with inventory counts and help keep materials properly labelled and stored.

Shop, yard, and equipment upkeep

- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop, warehouse, loading area, and yard.
- Sweep, clean up production areas, remove scrap material, and keep workspaces clear of hazards.
- Assist with periodic yard cleanup and organization.
- Complete basic general maintenance duties, including cleaning equipment,



lubrication/greasing, and reporting maintenance concerns.
- Help maintain company trucks, trailers, forklifts, production equipment, and shop tools in clean, safe working condition.
- Follow all company safety procedures, equipment-training requirements, and safe work practices.

Required qualifications

- Must currently live in Nova Scotia, preferably within the Halifax Regional Municipality area.
- Valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s licence with a satisfactory driving record.
- Demonstrated experience towing trailers, including confidence maneuvering and backing up larger trailers.
- Ability to safely operate a one-ton pickup truck while towing a 25-foot flat-deck trailer.
- Reliable transportation to and from work in Upper Sackville.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced shop, warehouse, yard, and construction-delivery environment.
- Physically capable of lifting, carrying, loading, and handling roofing and building materials safely.
- Strong work ethic, dependable attendance, and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work independently, follow directions, stay organized, and take pride in completing work properly.
- Ability to read order sheets, follow measurements, and complete basic math calculations.
- Commitment to working safely around equipment, forklifts, trailers, customer sites, and building materials.

Preferred qualifications

- Condition 15 endorsement for towing heavier trailers.
- Experience towing flat-deck, equipment, utility, enclosed, or construction trailers.
- Experience operating a trailer-mounted boom, knuckle boom, loader, or similar material-handling equipment.
- Forklift licence and forklift operating experience.
- Experience in metal roofing, siding, sheet metal, fabrication, manufacturing, construction, lumber/building supply, warehousing, or delivery work.




- Experience operating roll formers, trim brakes, benders, slitters, or other metal-manufacturing equipment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and experience with preventative maintenance, lubrication, greasing, and general shop upkeep.
- Experience loading, securing, and delivering building materials to residential and commercial job sites.

Training and advancement

Five Star Metals will provide on-site training for production equipment and shop processes. We can also assist qualified employees with obtaining forklift certification and a Class 15 endorsement.
